Looking for a new e-bike - need suggestions

Thanks Timpo! I have spent several hours online, reading all about Elby and watching youtube videos. This seems like a great bike!!! I have already filled out the form to have one brought to me for a test ride! I love how the motor is hidden. It's a great looking bike and $3,300., right in...

Looking for a new e-bike - need suggestions

Elby has reorganized under a new investment group and secured a strategic partnership with newly restructured BionX’s ebike powertrain business in order to continue expanding Elby’s distribution, develop new products, and deliver support to customers and retailers...

Looking for a new e-bike - need suggestions

Thank you! Cool looking bike and great price! But it does look like Bionx went out of business, so wouldn't want to buy a bike with Bionx parts.

Looking for a new e-bike - need suggestions

Thank you, but too expensive, as I have to have 2 e-bikes, one in Canada and one in the U.S. Don't want to have $15,000 tied up in bikes. Looking for something $3500.or less.

Sorry, I guess the name is Electra Townie, it is built by Trek.

Looking for a new e-bike - need suggestions

I have a RAD City Step-thru, (750 watt, 48 volt, 14aH), and a Electra Townie (400watt, 11 aH) I like them both but not thrilled with either of them. Rad has too much power in level 1 so I get no exercise, and the Townie is a slog getting up steep hills. Trying to find the "perfect" bike...

750 watt vs 500 watt motor

Thank you Timpo, I really appreciate all your help!!! Your suggestion of buying the new controller - is that just to make it go faster? If so, that is not something that is important to me. The ONLY thing that is important to me is that I might damage my 500w bike by pulling a trailer with...

750 watt vs 500 watt motor

It just occurred to me to ask Rad for some insight into this, and this is what they said: . . . . . . The difference between the two motors is purely in the programming, as the motors themselves are the same make. The Canadian models are just programmed to not exceed 500 watts, with the pedal...

750 watt vs 500 watt motor

Thank for your help, but as I previously said, I will only be riding on flat terrain, NO hills at all.

750 watt vs 500 watt motor

Thank you MechaNut, you are awesome, I finally got my answer! So, if I understand correctly, the ONLY difference in having a 750w rather than a 500w, is that the 750w will get me to top speed faster. That is NOT worth spending an extra $500. for. THANK YOU VERY MUCH for explaining it so I...

750 watt vs 500 watt motor

First of all, Timpo is wrong in saying there is a 19 cent difference in price. I will have to pay $500. in duty to import the bike to Canda, so the U.S. Rad will end up costing me $500. more.

750 watt vs 500 watt motor

Okay, thank you MechaNut, that is very helpful! I understand now that both bikes are built exactly the same, but because of the controller, they PERFORM differently. In my mind, if one outperforms the other, they are not the same bike! So how does the 750w outperform the 500w???

750 watt vs 500 watt motor

Sorry to say, I am still 100% confused. Many of you have taken a great deal of time to try and educate me, (which I greatly appreciate!) but several of you have said there is NO difference between the U.S. 750 w and the Canadian 500w. (My brain simply cannot understand that logic. If there is...

750 watt vs 500 watt motor

No, not true. I will have to pay $500. duty on the US bike if I import it to Canada. And before people start telling me I can't take a 750 bike to Canada, yes I can. I called the RCMP and asked them what would happen if they caught me riding a 750 watt bike in B.C. He said nothing, UNESS I...

750 watt vs 500 watt motor

I don't know what I am talking about. LOL!!! I am referring to the U.S. 750w and the Canadian 500w. I "assumed" the 750 and 500 numbers were for the motor, but maybe I am wrong?

750 watt vs 500 watt motor

If it doesn't matter if I have a 500w or a 750w motor, then why are the 2 options available??? You can't tell me there is no difference between the two. I am TRYING to find out what the advantage a 750 will give me over 500.

750 watt vs 500 watt motor

The RAD has a DD hub motor. When I am pulling the trailer with my 90 year old mother in it, I will not be going far. I would guess 20 miles. Without the trailer, I will be riding 50 miles, most of the time in PAS 1. (But I just rode a century ride two days ago and want to do more of them...
