    REAL bargains

Don’t know why I didn’t think of this before, but on the long rides (50-60+ miles) there are not enough hand positions and comfortable places to keep my hands & arms from getting sore. I would sometimes rest my lower arms on the handlebars, but the contact with metal was uncomfortable. Thought...

Hypermiling - settings to modify to get extreme range

+1. For my e-bike, analog traditional bike, and plug-in cars, many of the similar rules apply. Coasting as much as possible downhills, reduce wind resistance (for bikes, aero body positions; for cars, no roof racks, keep windows closed), minimize rolling resistance with the right tires and tire...

Hypermiling - settings to modify to get extreme range

+1. The general guideline from bikerollingresistance.com is to inflate to 85% of maximum pressure. Provides a balance of lower rolling resistance and comfort. I’ve now settled on that, after trying both higher and lower pressures.

    Accessories that didn’t work out?

Bought a smartphone holder to put on the handlebars, and just didn’t like it. Having a costly device mounted up high and at risk of damage just not what I wanted. Stand-alone gps (for me, wahoo elemnt bolt v2) has been so much more useful, and doesn’t drain my phone battery.

    Cadence choices in ebiking

From Strava, just did on an analog (non e-bike) single speed 48x17 gear bike : 60 miles, 3300 ft elevation gain, 4.5 hours

Hypermiling - settings to modify to get extreme range

I do this all the time, with e-bikes and analog bikes, but for downhills primarily. Turn off motor, go as fast as I can at start of downhill, then stop pedaling and get into as deep an aero tuck as possible. Goal is to coast as long as I can, while conserving my physical energy, and saving...

    Cadence choices in ebiking

Don’t know about others, but for me switching between higher cadence sitting down & lower cadence standing up, reduces my knee soreness and chance of leg cramps. Or at least, it might allow me to keep riding and climbing hills, even if in a bit of pain.

    Cadence choices in ebiking

Same here, seem to migrate toward 80 rpm average, even on my SS e-bike. Same on my indoor spin bike. Totally different for me though climbing hills, and will get down below 40 or even 30 RPM or less, muscling up hills with a SS. And on the other end, will sometimes get up to 120+ RPM (with a...

easy-rolling ebikes when unpowered (what brands)

Regarding rolling resistance, been doing some research into what a difference tires might make. If I’m reading the information correctly, FYI if I did this correctly this is what I came up with for some different Conti road tires, when used front and rear. Doesn’t translate into a big difference...

Analog Single Speed Bike recommendations (<20 lbs)? SOLVED + REVIEW

Here it is, after swapping out tires. The 30mm barely fit. Rear has enough clearance, but front is just about to touch the caliper brakes. May be okay after wearing down tread, but might need to go to 28mm up front.

    Looking for minimalist, "undercover" ebike?

Not just because I just got one, but what about a lightweight SS analog bike? I think State Bicycles are also available in Europe? https://www.statebicycle.com/collections/black-label/. My new preferred minimalist bike duo is: Ride1UP Roadster SS e-bike $1100 + State Bicycle Black Label SS...

Analog Single Speed Bike recommendations (<20 lbs)? SOLVED + REVIEW

    I. Did. It. New owner of a State Bicycle Black Label Single Speed in white/black. Under 18 lbs, and so simple and minimalist. Great deal coming in under $800. Did my first 20 mile ride, and sort of feels similar to riding my Ride1UP Roadster v2 with no or ~20 to 40 watts assist. Of course, not...

Yes, that seems right, for the seat tube. I was talking about adding a bottle on a larger diameter downtube or top tube.

Wasn’t sure about which vinyl, plastic or poly tape? I see an inexpensive 3M clear paint protection vinyl film for under $10, but then “helicopter tape” for $30-40?
