After 1,119 miles I had to change out the chain. It was stretched according to the tool. Added an extra link since I upgraded the chain ring up 2 teeth.

2024 - Our Rides in Words, Photos, Maps and Videos

Did a short 15.8 mile ride today on a new route. It was nice to have the 70's after the previous Arctic blast we had here in Florida (high's in the 50's) earlier this week. I know "Whaaa for you".

    4'10" rider on a Portola

My vertically challenged daughter had no issues on the new Portola ebike. It was her first ride on an ebike tonight. I will say that a cadence based ebike is a good bike for those that haven't ridden a multi-geared bike. Easier to figure out PAS levels vs a gear shift. She worked it out to...

    New Portola Folding Bike

Got the Portola today. No issues with it. Have about 8 miles on it so far. Feels weird going back to a cadence based bike.

    Synch Charger stopped Working

@Losna Check the region of the user when talking about charging. Europe has some nice rules that the U.S. market does not have currently. What you describe does not fit for the cheap chargers and the limited BMS on batteries here. You are not wrong in theory. But in reality, you are off...

I am putting it up for the winter. Do I keep the battery (about 60% charged now) inside for the winter? Anything else?

Not all chargers are smart, esp with some of the cheaper ebikes, Non-EU bikes. Assume the chargers will charge to full when a brand is not mentioned.

I am putting it up for the winter. Do I keep the battery (about 60% charged now) inside for the winter? Anything else?

Yes on bringing the battery inside. What kind of bike? Hydraulic brakes?

Bike tires? Puncture proof? Skid proof?

Check local bike shops and any REi's in your area to learn bike maintenance. They do have classes on it. Learn what you need to carry on the bike to fix the flat. Getting hung up on getting stuck is going to get you hung up on not riding and getting into shape. It is not as hard as you think...

    New Portola Folding Bike

I ended up ordering one so my short daughter can join in on the group rides. She is 4'10" so it should be interesting to see if it actually fits her. They created the shipping ticket yesterday, but has yet to be turned over to FedEx.

    Logs

I refuse to take pictures of my bike next to the logs I find on the trail. First of all, it means there is a bear somewhere around. Or an inconsiderate dog owner that doesn't want it in their face.

"Best advice for new ebike riders" from us

One thing to consider in this mirror debate.... There are a lot of older people learning about the benefits of an ebike and the fact that they have a new world open to them. I will assume these riders have mup's around them they can ride to be safe from traffic. Some of these people haven't...

Another Frey Savannah Ultra - CC owner

Slowly have been riding again. Made a change on the crank arms. The CC I received had 170mm cranks, but went to 165 mm for a change. Seems to help with the riding issues I had in the past, or maybe I am just healing. I did somehow get a flat on the rear Johnny Watts at the end of my 20 mile...

"Best advice for new ebike riders" from us

Please be careful about brand loyalty in this. This is geared towards all the ebikes. $500-$30k. It's about the experience and what to look for in that experience. Not what x can out do y in a contest.

"Best advice for new ebike riders" from us

I have only been riding an ebike for about 3 years now, and have kinda planned small group rides for the last 2. Here is my top advice that is a massive overview. Learn your battery. Do a battery range test. It does not need to be a one day adventure. Figure out how you ride and how far...
