Looking for my first eBike for commuting / taking on the train

15 miles each way, or roundtrip?

How reliable is the e-rad gear sensor?

Yeah, I didn't know about the NuVinci either Sal. That's cool, esp. on a fat bike!

How reliable is the e-rad gear sensor?

Thanks for the compliment. I like my bike better than any of the 'prebuilt' models I tried out - it's both more powerful and more comfortable, plus it was at least $1K cheaper than quality integrated bikes like the Stromer. It's still pretty expensive, but that's just the state of the nascent...

How reliable is the e-rad gear sensor?

I've been riding my new e-Rad conversion for just a couple of weeks. I have an IGH hub (Shimano Nexus 7) and the sensor. It seems to be a relatively simple mechanism and should be just as reliable as any other wired component, such as the wheel speed sensor. I would not see this as a great...

    Conversion Info

I recently converted a commuter bike with the BBS02 750W and it is a beast (check out my thread on the e-Rad forum). In fact, I probably would have been fine and had greater range with a 500W. Overall power is pretty amazing, and I never set the pedal assist above level 3 (of 5). It's great...

    Excellent. Happy Trails Sal!

    New e-Rad Conversion

Thanks Jonah. I'm a little misty after my 4.5 mi hilly commute but it doesn't bother me too much. When I tried riding a legpower bike to work I was drenched!

    New e-Rad Conversion

I was just out bombing around the area. I find I can maintain 17.5 mph pretty easily with PAS 2 and PAS 3 is good for 19 - 20 mph. That's fast enough for me on the city streets and bike paths around here. I was just going up a local bike path (Minuteman Bikeway 'America's Revolutionary Rail...

    New e-Rad Conversion

That's very interesting. I hadn't considered that possibility, but now I will try to remember to disconnect the charger if I am leaving the house, thanks. The weight is a non-issue for me but it would have been a huge problem back when I lived on Beacon Hill in a 4th floor walk up. Since...

    New e-Rad Conversion

Hi Sal - Yeah, I got my bike this weekend and loving it so far. I noticed that about the battery lights too, no big deal. My favorite feature (besides the boost!) is the watt output display. Based on what it says I probably could have been just as happy with a 500W system but it's good to have...

    New e-Rad Conversion

Thanks for the kind words. My kit comes set to max out at 32 kph (20 mph) which is easy to achieve. I haven't yet felt the need to raise the limiter; I think I want to get a sense of what my range is like with the current restrictions before I crank it up. I did 15 miles of mostly flats...

    New e-Rad Conversion

Thanks Tara. I do think they did a good job and I'm hoping I can help them drum up some more conversion business. Bicycle Belle (http://bicyclebelleboston.com) is a completely female owned and staffed shop (which is a rarity around here) and they concentrate on commuting and family bicycles...

    New e-Rad Conversion

Thanks George. You are correct on the pricing. I probably overbought on the motor simply because I have very little experience with ebikes; I did test ride a Stromer St1 on a decent local hill and I felt like a bit more power would be nice so I went whole-hog for my bike. I chose the bicycle...

    New e-Rad Conversion

Just got my first ebike yesterday, with Lectric's 750W/48V/11.6Ah kit. I did a break in ride of about 15 miles in the evening yesterday (mix of bike path, residential and fairly busy roads with some moderate hills), which went great. Practiced my 4.5 mile commute to work today up over a...

I getting ready to buy an Orion 8 crawler fat tire bike from lectriccycles.com soon.

Cool. I like the look of the new battery case, more compact and less goofy. I agree with @Adrian - based on the orientation of the front dropouts it looks like the front tire is actually pointed backward in these photos. Did you have to rotate the fork during setup?

    Analysis Paralysis

Hi Sal - Good to hear your bike is coming tomorrow! I take that to mean my battery (new case) will be delivered soon; I already have the updated motor. You should start a thread in the e-rad forum once you get some seat time. I'll do the same.

    Analysis Paralysis

I am sorta in the same boat as you, being a long time cyclist but not having encountered ebikes prior to June of this year, then getting kinda obsessed ;) I rode a Stromer at a local shop, which I liked, but it just seemed like too much money. I also tried a 250W BionX based Trek bike at...

    Copenhagen wheel

Hmmmm. I think you would find it to be too weak for your needs. It certainly did not feel "rocket like" on the test ride, which is more of what you would feel from a BBS02 750W mid drive conversion (which is what I am purchasing). It seems more designed for someone who casually rides in a city...
