    Quad Lock Phone Mount?

I use a Rokform only because it has a magnet built into the case and I have a magnetic mount in my truck. The Rokform is a twist and lock, similar to the Quad Lock, but was more widely available in Canada in December than the QL. I've never had a problem with it bouncing out of its holder and...

Statement Regarding Potential CPSC Ebike Law Preemption of 3-class Legislation

In Canada, the limit is a 500 watt motor and a top power assisted speed of 24 mph (42 km/hr). My bike is significantly more powerful than that, so I guess I'm illegal. So what? Unless you do something completely stupid, like fly through a playground zone at 45 km/hr (posted 30 km/hr), does...

Abus Cafe Lock Advice for WattWagon Ultimate Commuter Pro

I hope that link works. I know these things are hard to get. In December, I couldn't find them in Canada at all and from Amazon the shipping and tax was more than the straps. But they work very well and you can take them on and off, just have to reverse them on the first re-install.

Abus Cafe Lock Advice for WattWagon Ultimate Commuter Pro

You can also get these straps from Amazon. They're better than zip ties because they are flat and lay tight against the frame so it's very difficult to cut them. This will be the only thing holding your cafe lock in place on the bike...

brake noise on disc brakes could just be the disc.

I disagree with that. Even without earbuds, in the wind, you often never hear cars coming up behind you. That's what the helmet mirror is for. I'd rather be happily enjoying music when I get obliterated by a little old lady. Out west of Calgary in Springbank, drivers have a love-hate...

    PIM Fork

I have no idea what an Avalanche is, but I assume it's a brand of bike. I just used a GT Karakorum frame, only because the triangle was big enough to fit my battery. I threw away all the stock parts and put higher quality components on everywhere. Even the Bolany is a substantial upgrade to the...

brake noise on disc brakes could just be the disc.

I've got noise on the front rotor as well. I view the noise as a safety feature, sort of like the whistles you can put on the front of your car to warn deer and other critters of impending death. Rotor noise is just a warning to pedestrians walking down the road who are socially distancing by 20...

Show us pictures of your cockpit!

I prefer an uncluttered, minimalist look to my cockpit. The N-Lock stem piece is also a nice security feature and makes storage easier.

    PIM Fork

I've got a Bolany (might be an acronym for Baloney 😄) air suspension front fork on my EMTB. Bolany is one of Amazon's favorite Chinese brands. It works fine. I certainly notice the difference in my shoulders after a ride if I've flipped the lockout on the fork by mistake. You do have to check...

What happens when your Ebike you ordered on the Internet breaks?

When I read about all the grief everyone is having with their LBS and online non-help, it's just a really good indicator that the way to go is build the silly thing yourself and fix it yourself. When it gets to a point that it's not fixable, as in a bent frame, it's just another opportunity to...

Suntour NCX or Satori Animaris for 175lber?

No, it's just a (regular?) mountain bike, if there is such a thing as a regular bike. The Brooks saddle on a bike with a more upright seat tube would work fine with the Suntour NCX seatpost. One of those little things you never consider when you build a new bike. It's just a good excuse to spend...

Suntour NCX or Satori Animaris for 175lber?

I've got a Suntour NCX and one of the problems with it, if your seat tube sloping too far back, is that you have very little play in adjusting the front tilt of the seat, because the seat rails hit the front of the NCX. It looks as though you would get more clearance on the Animaris and...

How skilled are you in fixing your ebike ?

I think the biggest obstacle to bike maintenance is all the specialized tools you have to acquire before you can start. All the tools you spent a lifetime accumulating to fix cars are pretty much useless for a bike. I cannibalized my socket sets to get a full set of 1/4" drive stuff, but I'd...

Why are Brooks Saddles known for comfort?

I guess I cheated on breaking in my B17. I soaked it in warm water for 30 minutes, liberally coated it in mink oil and rode it for an hour. After that it was broken in and moulded to my butt. That's how you break in the old leather hockey skates and leather baseball gloves too. I'm finding the...

My DIY builds: GMAC, BBSHD, 9C RH212, CYC Photon, ToSeven DM01

It would just be nice if there was a single definitive statistic that said how much battery you have left. I have a vested interest in this, as I live at the top of a hill. After having to pedal home once with no power, I'm not eager to repeat the experience. It's not like a cell phone - you...

My DIY builds: GMAC, BBSHD, 9C RH212, CYC Photon, ToSeven DM01

Where do you find presets or do you have to create them? My setup is essentially the same as yours, except I have the 24P PAS sensor. I've got my PAS levels setup in increments of 100 W up to 800 W and running at level 3 or 4 (300 or 400 W), I get about 60 km and then I'm about 1/2 charge or so...

    Suspension Seat Posts

Actually, finding exhorbitantly high prices at Amazon.ca is quite a common occurrence. I have no idea why. I've seen $300 items on Amazon.com that are $3500 on Amazon.ca. It's like someone missed a decimal point, but it happens a lot, so you have to be very careful ordering from the Canadian arm...

    Which Size frame to choose?

When I built my bike, I went with a large frame and my prime criteria was that the triangle between the upper and lower tubes be large enough to fit the battery. My first frame was a Specialized Curve. Nice frame, but useless, because the battery wouldn't fit. With modern mountain bikes it's...

    Suspension Seat Posts

I've got a Suntour NCX seatpost and all I can say about it is it's very finicky to set up. Takes a lot of fiddling around with seat placement and spring tension before you feel it is actually doing something. I've only got 100 km on mine and still haven't gotten it right.

Quick & Dirty Topeak Tetra Review

Here is a neat way to keep your trunk bag on the bike rack. Virtually all bags have a false bottom where the rain cover goes. I cut that out and rivetted a piece of scrap aluminum to a hinge and mounted that on the bike rack. Now I can just slide the bag onto the aluminum panel and it will stay...
