    2025 Vado

I'll be very interested to hear your honest thoughts on the SL after your test rides. It's certainly not right for everyone. The important thing is that you end up with the right bike for you. Smart move to put your upcoming SL and regular Vado tests into perspective with a ride on your...

    2025 Vado

Between the stock Future Shock 1.5 and the tubeless 700x38 mm tires I'm now running at 35 psi, I feel no need for more suspension on my SL 5.0. Granted, the pavement here's generally in pretty good shape. But that assessment includes some pretty bumpy offroad, too. Other SL members have...

Headed to Rome, Italy next week, then a week in Amalfi Coast. Any eBike advice?

Totally jealous! When we were there in 2003 or so, my take on traffic in Rome was effectively laneless chaos, with everyone around you vying for that square meter of empty pavement you're about to enter. The darting hoardes on scooters are the worst. Doubt that's changed much, so use a mirror...

    2025 Vado

The SL 4.0 test you've lined up will go a long way toward your SL vs. regular Vado decision. But you really should drive the 20 miles to test any version of the latter as well. This will address a key quality that will come up on every future ride — overall feel. After 5 weeks, 34 rides, and...

Show us pictures of where you ride your ebikes!

October's my favorite month here in coastal north San Diego County — shirt-sleeve temperatures, gentle breezes, few clouds, and crystal-clear air with razor-sharp horizons. Below are typical October scenes from coast rides in the last 5 days. From yesterday, looking south, then north from the...

    Bicycle-related kinetic sculptures

Opening this thread to share noteworthy kinetic sculptures and other moving 3D displays with a cycling theme. The latter need not rise to the level of "art". Looking for real 3D gizmos that actually move, not animated graphics. If at all possible, please show your submissions in motion...

SHOW us YOUR PIX here .... Odd, WeiRd ,UnUSuAl or EyE CaTchIng things from your rides

I see these painted cobbles here and there in my SoCal beach town — usually in small groups. The cobbles themselves are there for the picking at many local beaches, especially in winter. These little paintings are a public artform unto themselves and often bring a smile. Most are cheery with...

2024 - Our Rides in Words, Photos, Maps and Videos

As a married man and retiree, gear selection and assist level are the last 2 things I'm still in charge of. Not about to cede that control to a bicycle.

I think the less we know about this, the better.

Vado SL 2 Carbon LTD premiered today!

Cadence takes top priority with me, too. It's always been clear that I operate best at 80-90 rpm, and at 76, my funky knees demand it. The motor and gearing are there to keep me at 80-90 rpm on all local climbs. My SL 5's motor prefers that cadence, too, and I don't mind giving up some pedaled...

Do we have a Franken bike thread?

Calling @Chargeride : Please ask AI what a Franken ebike and a plain old ugly ebike look like. Interested to see how many gratuitous girls it throws in. Pretty clear by now that AI graphics generators are designed and schooled by 20-something males.

Well done! Great-looking bike with impressive specs to match. A steal for the $4k sale price.

    Hello from Berlin

Welcome aboard! Very impressive ebike. If you don't mind my asking, what kind of cargo will you be carrying? In the city or elsewhere?

    2025 Vado

Definitely do the Creo 2 test. If it's marginal on hills like the ones you want to ride, or if it's WAY more than adequate, you'll have a pretty clear answer on the Vado SL 5. Otherwise, you'll just have to chance it. My path to an SL 5 might help you weigh your odds. I'm 76 with funky knees...

    Hello from Southern California.

We spent a few nights near there in Huntington Beach last month. When we weren't treating the dog to some quality off-leash time on Huntington's famous dog beach, we were riding the beautiful seaside bikeways on rented ebikes. Rough duty, I know, but somebody's gotta do it. Tomorrow is new bike...

Turbo Creo 2 Comp E5 (aluminum) is out, is a Vado SL 2 next?

Looking over the product page, this caught my eye: New one on me. In what sense is a 30 Nm hub-drive "comparable" to a 75 Nm mid-drive? Farther down, no mention of the 30 Nm at all. Surprised a major brand like Giant would engage in this sort of deception.

    Attia/Pogacar interview

Well, Pogi's done it again! Won Il Lombardia (aka Giro di Lombardia) a few days ago in classic Pogi style. Attacked with a withering uphill acceleration at 48 km out (see 2:40 below) and grew his solo lead from there to beat second-place Evenepoel by over 3 minutes! With that victory on the...

2024 - Our Rides in Words, Photos, Maps and Videos

That route looks like a lot of fun. Bet the scenery will be superb. There's something special about riding bridges. Rented a non-electric gravel bike in Portland, Oregon last year to knock around the city with my daughter. Lots of BIG bridges across the Willamette River there, and we went out...
