Radrover Controller & Display Upgrade Kit

Yep, heavy and loud. Those fat Kenda produces a ridiculous buzz & whine at over 30 mph. I'm betting people can hear it a block away. But I want to wear these out first before going to smooth tires. I did some no load throttle test on each setup as I went along. Basically theoretical speed that...

Radrover Controller & Display Upgrade Kit

Yep, it the Juiced version. The horn is great, I haven't really needed the alarm part. If you do a search for "usb horn" on aliexpress, you can find it cheaper but in a different color both with or without the alarm function.

Radrover Controller & Display Upgrade Kit

I opened up the controller with the idea of soldering the red & black wires directly to the circuit board. But after looking at the board, it seemed more trouble than it was worth so I simply cut the 2 wires inside the controller, fed the new wires into the old rubber grommets and did the...

Radrover Controller & Display Upgrade Kit

Oh crap, I just realized I did that whole ride in PAS 3. I can't wait to try PAS 5. The higher voltage pushes the motor to higher number of revolutions. I mainly wanted more capacity, the old 11.6Ah felt a little limiting. the extra 3-4 mph is a welcome benefit. The mounting holes fit the 3...

Radrover Controller & Display Upgrade Kit

This controller upgrade has started me on a path of near $1000 of upgrades and I couldn't be happier. Controller + motor first, then hydraulic brakes, and now a 52V 17.5Ah battery. Bought this one on AliExpress (took 12 days). I got the 40A one, because why not it's just a little bit more. Unit...

Upgraded my brake calipers w/ TRP cable actuated hydraulic disc brakes

Yep, it's some ebay cheap stick-on clock that I 3D printed mount for.

Upgraded my brake calipers w/ TRP cable actuated hydraulic disc brakes

Yeah, I like the black-on-black look on the new levers much better than the stock chrome color. I might miss the bell, but I can't remember the last time I used it. I have a horn. Other than the rerouting of the hose through the frame (& thus brake bleeding), it's a simple drop in replacement --...

Upgraded my brake calipers w/ TRP cable actuated hydraulic disc brakes

Upgraded my Radrover to Shimano M355 hydraulics last week. Bought a brake bleed kit & some new "insert & olive" to route the hydraulic hose through the frame. Ordered some brake cutoff sensors but they are not here yet. I might just installed one for the right lever. I like being able to start...

Radrover Controller & Display Upgrade Kit

It's faster going up steep hills, which is probably where the torque is most felt. But I didn't get in that much riding with just the controller upgrade. My 750w motor showed up faster than I expected.

Radrover Controller & Display Upgrade Kit

I don't think that slot could line up facing forward, mine is facing up. Looking at the old stock motor, it looks like the way washers fit the dropouts, the slot can either face up or down. Here's a pic of mine, looks like you just have more slack than I do on the cable:

Radrover Controller & Display Upgrade Kit

In one of those Bolton videos, they recommended 29 as the diameter setting for fat tires. I'm using stock Kendas. Seems to be accurate based on known mileage for my rides. As for the noise, I can't say I noticed any difference. But then mine has always been a little noisy, the motor & the...

A built in clock would be nice

That stick-on watch from ebay (linked above) came yesterday so I created a 3D printed mount for it. Simple to mount with just a ziptie & a tiny piece of mounting tape. File available at Thingiverse.

Anyone put a bigger chainring on their Rover?

Yeah, for people finding this thread later from search, this method should work better than splitting the tool in halves. The split method worked ok only if the freewheel comes off easy, but if it's tight, the splines will slip.

The mounting part is 195mm from end to end.

Anyone put a bigger chainring on their Rover?

Nice, what kind of speed are you getting (top speed while pedalling)? I've been thinking of upgrading the battery to a 52v 17.5Ah, already did the motor & controller upgrade. Also, with the extra speed now, I'm going to upgrade to hydraulic brakes.

Radrover Controller & Display Upgrade Kit

Just a short 6 mile trip to for coffee, no issues. Would have like to ride today, but it's raining. Anyway, here's a older post with the picture of the tool. The freewheel came off relatively easy 2 years ago when the bike was fairly new. But this time with the freewheel being in there for 2...

A built in clock would be nice

Saw this thread and checked out some cheap watches on ebay. Turns out they make some stick on type watches that would work.

Radrover Controller & Display Upgrade Kit

No, that's for cassettes. You have to watch out for that, look up cassette vs freewheel so you can tell the difference by sight. This one would work. And if you are willing to go with 11-30, it's a lot cheaper.

Radrover Controller & Display Upgrade Kit

Yeah, freewheel removal requires a split freewheel removal tool. Because the tool has to get pass the connector, nut & washers. Here's an old thread talking about it. Some people say that you can get one from Rad, not sure. I bought this one, and used a dremel disc to cut it. I have a 11-28 fw...

Radrover Controller & Display Upgrade Kit

The motor I ordered above came yesterday, basically took almost 7 days. Below is a picture of the motors for comparison, original 2016 Rad on the left, the new 750w on the right. Big difference in the magnet size. Installing wasn't too bad, same as shown in Bolton's video for their Sondors...
