How do you like your mid-drive City Commuter?

We've customized City Commuters to similar spec, but I haven't had my hands on the Black Edition yet.

Why aren't there CHEAP & RELIABLE e-bikes in North America?

I'm putting my hat in the ring of culture. Americans see bikes as a toy; somewhere between a frisbee and a swimming pool. Japan, China, Europe... to them a bicycle is a tool, the way we treat vacuums. There is no culture to pimp out a vacuum, even though it's loud, has wheels and lights, and can...

Outside Magazines Mixed Review of Yamaha's New eBikes

Are you in the states? The EM manual isn't the best, but very few of them are within the industry... The older display has a setting for different motor engagement (front, rear, both) but I haven't yet delved into the PRO display yet.

Outside Magazines Mixed Review of Yamaha's New eBikes

If you were using the oval Easy Motion display, it keeps the mileage on that display. We've switched out quite a many with our local customers, and it's very normal. We haven't switched for the center PRO display on anything yet, but it wouldn't surprise me in the least.I know for certain the...

Outside Magazines Mixed Review of Yamaha's New eBikes

The new Brose S has some good torque specs to it, but I haven't been able to try one in a real-world test yet. I've seen concerns about the belt drive with efficiency and long-term viability, but I don't know much about motor materials but it's been fine for our local customers so far, but it's...

Outside Magazines Mixed Review of Yamaha's New eBikes

Yeah, I've been trying to sneak out of the shop to conclude more testing between the Dapu Hub-drive and the dapu mid-drive both equipped on otherwise identical Pedego bikes. So far, the mid-drive isn't faring well. It might be that the mid-drive was tuned (either by pedego or dapu) to replicate...

Surface 604 Element - Battery wanted

If Surface604 doesn't have any directly, you could try EG bikes. I know they use the same battery/mount/controller at one time.

Outside Magazines Mixed Review of Yamaha's New eBikes

I personally love the quiet and smooth feel of the Brose motor, but I haven't tried one yet that was especially torquey. Even the 28mph version wasn't all that punchey in performance. The smoothness and quietness are a great system for an easy going rider, I think. I tried a dapu mid-drive a...

Outside Magazines Mixed Review of Yamaha's New eBikes

Nope. The newer motor systems (PW-SE on road bikes, PW-X on the mtb) are noisier on account of the increased torque. I dunno if the materials used inside the motor had anything to do with it, but I know they made some internal changes. I was kind of bummed, 'cause I felt like the Yamaha won...

I rode the Yamaha eBikes; ask away!

Which haibike do you think would compare best? Between the Easy Motion 2.75 PW-X and the Yamaha YDX-Torc, I'm still kind of torn. The Yamaha comes in at -$500, but it gives up some nice mechanical components as a result. For road bikes, the best comparison would be the Felt Sport-E, which I...

    New Surface604 SHRED!

I think a more apt comparison would be the Pedego Ridge Rider. Both use a 500w hub motor and a mid mount 48v battery. Throttle, pedal assist. I know the Ridge Rider has been a big mover in our store, so I think the Shred would do well as well.

Outside Magazines Mixed Review of Yamaha's New eBikes

I was quite perplexed they have a model called the UrbanRush, but it's limited to 20. Such a silly misnomer may be a clue as to their future intentions.

I rode the Yamaha eBikes; ask away!

I was tickled pink to be one of the first to try out the new Yamaha Power Assist Bicycles (YPAB) at the same media event as outside magazine, motorcycle.com, atv scene, and more. I'm still working on video content for the BMB channel. I made a quick overview, and a spotlightfor a couple of the...

Outside Magazines Mixed Review of Yamaha's New eBikes

At 20mph they feel really nice. The cut-off was hardly apparent at 20, and the mechanical gearing still left some room for tension when going downhill. This morning I rode a different motor system to work, and the cut-off point was quite apparent. I did learn while I was there that Yamaha Power...
