    GPS tracking

They won't see the phone because it'll be inside of an enclosed plastic housing that's bolted to the handlebars and front suspension fork's crown. It'll be a stealthy install. Any thief would just need a toolbox to disassemble it, but I'd have their location. I might actually build it to house...

    GPS tracking

I'm looking into building my own solution based on Ting Mobile, which is an MVNO that sort of works like an API for wireless tech. It's really cheap ($9/month). I'm probably going to install a Moto G or a Moto E inside of a 3D-printed plastic fairing/housing that I'll fasten to the front fork...

Sea Otter Classic Adds eMTB Races for 2016 *NOW 2017 is a Go!

Specialized won the race overall (Ravi alluded to this above).

Sea Otter Classic Adds eMTB Races for 2016 *NOW 2017 is a Go!

Why did the race inspector protest? There was nothing in the rules against prototype bikes. The only thing I saw that was similar was a ban on "tuned" bikes, but I think that referred to bikes that could provide assist above 20MPH.

Lost a light level on my Dash Battery

Ruh roh. I hope you get that sorted out. That doesn't sound normal. Might want to get a battery replacement under warranty. My 2015 IZIP E3 Dash used to indicate 47 miles of range when I first got it. After 100 miles, that dropped to 43 miles, and at 600 miles it dropped to 41 miles, and now...

How come the 2015 Pedego Interceptor (48V/10Ah) costs $645.00 > the 2016 Aerial Rider (48V/11.6Ah)?

One good reason to buy the Pedego: they have dealers all over the US, and you can get service/maintenance/repair for Pedegos just about anywhere. According to Ariel Rider's website, the closest dealer to me in San Francisco is Schmidt Pedelec in Nuremberg, Germany. If I were choosing between the...

    IZIP E3 Dash Video Review

Great review, Court. I'm glad they added a rack, fenders, and lights and lowered the price. The motor seems really loud compared to the silent 2015 version, but I imagine that the improved hill climbing torque probably makes up for that. What strikes me most about the 2016 Dash is the hydraulic...

    Haibike downhill pro

Electric downhill bikes are still just for downhill. If you want to climb, don't get a downhill bike. Downhill bikes have reinforced frames that add weight, and they also have double-crown forks that add even more weight. Some motor-less downhill bikes weigh 40lbs, which is nearly what an ebike...

    915miles in 45days = 32charge cycles

There's no need to test whether your battery can be charged to 100%. As long as you have a BMS and healthy, operable cells, you can rest assured that you'll be able to fully charge it. Even if you charge your battery to 80%, you'll still have to charge it up to 100% occasionally (say, once...

    915miles in 45days = 32charge cycles

As I explained, it will severely decrease the battery's cycle life. If you're comfortable with 300-500 cycles and then replacing your battery for $500+, then charging to 100% is fine, but if you'd like to get 1000-2000 cycles, the only way to do that with today's lithium cells is to manage the...

    915miles in 45days = 32charge cycles

Just FYI, the way you're charging your battery is precisely the best way to reduce your battery's cycle life. Until a year ago, the best-practices solution to increasing cycle life was to charge to 80% and to try to stay above 20% charge while riding. That's how the first-generation Chevrolet...

Does anyone on this forum work for Specialized?

Have you reported the issues to your Specialized dealer? If so, are they able to diagnose and fix the problem(s)?

    How can I tell if I'm buying a 2015 or 2016 Stromer ST2?

Agreed – Crazy Lenny always has the best prices. That guy is a game-changer for the whole industry! :D

Software Update ... no speed after

Though they say its top speed is 28MPH, my 2015 IZIP E3 Dash continues to provide motor assistance up to 34MPH (if you can get it going that fast, that is!).

hmm... i guess the joke's on me?

If I were you, I'd arrange to return to bike to the dealer at no cost to you (hopefully they'll allow you to do that). I think it makes a difference what price you were charged, though. If they sold it to you for cheap, like $500, then I think you should've known that you weren't buying a 2015...

    Front fork

Perhaps they meant to say "coil" fork instead of oil? There's some similar confusion going on right now with a different crowdfunded bike, the Flux Trail. Its original specs called for a nice air suspension fork, the SR Suntour Epixon, but they've since pulled a little bait-and-switch and...

    March of Electric Technology

Aren't all direct-drive hub motors silent? The only noise that should come from a direct-drive hub motor is from the spinning freewheel bearings (and that should be minimal) and the air drag on the wheel spokes. The only thing that makes an audible noise on any hub motor should be the gears in a...

Failed CF Campaigns & Cheap Batteries

It's really strange that they're on both KS and IGG at the same time, and that he's got his wife's name on the campaigns instead of his own. I mean, if it were her product that she built, then that would change things, but I just googled Ron and he's the electric drag racing enthusiast, so it...

Failed CF Campaigns & Cheap Batteries

There was every reason for the Sondors electric bike to be crowdfunded. First of all, it gave his brand lots of attention, media coverage, and free marketing. How else is an unknown brand supposed to generate millions of dollars in sales for an unknown product in just a matter of weeks? The...

How struggling can it be to lift a 60lbs eBike to the 3rd floor?

Only if it's a full-suspension bike or a fatbike. Otherwise, I think you might rattle the frame and rear wheel too much for comfort. I guess it's a subjective thing, though. I'm sure there are a lot of folks who wouldn't mind throttling their ebike up the stairs in a very bumpy fashion, but...
