Show us pictures of where you ride your ebikes!

In Australia (Queensland) many vehicles, mainly SUVs and pickups have snorkels that allow passage through water that would otherwise flood out an engine. That's because many normally dry gullies have high water from time to time; cheaper than building bridges over them. The approach to these...

Using a Pet Trailer with a Ride1Up Turris?

Long ago, I read a book called " Zoo Vet," by David Taylor, which has stories about his work. He said that when he arrived at one town, he was met at the station by a chimpanzee on a motorcycle, and that the chimp gave him a ride to the zoo. Everybody I've mentioned this to is extremely...

How do you use a new battery?

You may be confusing that notion with Grandma's admonition about not swimming for an hour after eating lunch.

    Issues with brand new ebike

I would guess that the loose spoke flexed, and metal fatigue was the result. I would be leery of the remaining spokes as well. The same problem that made British airliners fall out of the sky back in the fifties. (Anybody remember the name of that plane?)

Recommended air pump to carry on bike

For someone wanting a flexible hose between the pump and the tire valve, it would be quite easy to make up such a hose of any length you want. My hardware store (Hardware Sales in Bellingham, WA) carries the male and female fittings you would need, as well as the hose itself.

    Stupid E-bike games?

Washington State has a new (for about a year now) law that allows cyclists to roll through stop signs without stopping. I take advantage of this often, but I do remain alert for other traffic. That law of course does not give us the right of way over other traffic. On another note, Bellingham...

    National Bike Month

My accident 2 or 3 years ago happened about midway between two fire stations. Though I wasn't conscious at the time, I heard the EMTs from both stations had a jurisdictional dispute. I'm not sure whether it was "He's ours, in our jurisdiction," or "No, you take him, he's in your area." Not sure...

How do you use a new battery?

All I can add is 2 cents worth (or less): You can extend the life of hearing aid batteries if you don't listen. At least, I'm trying to persuade my wife that that's true.

    Good uses for walk mode

My step thru has such a bar, and I have always assumed it's to stiffen the frame, but it is a handy handle.

How to Switch to Clipless Pedals

My left shin has a mess of bruises and scars; happens when I stop and put my left foot down, then bang into the pedal. Dermatologist was puzzled until I explained it to her. But it's not really a problem for me.

    Stupid E-bike games?

I'll take this opportunity to grouse about a minor issue that sort of annoys me. That is the use of cute names for pedal assist levels, such as eco, sport, tour, snailish. etc. I like a simple system: 1, 2, 3, 4, etc.. There, I've vented. Move on, nothing more to see here.

    Good uses for walk mode

I have used walk mode when biking a route that isn't friendly to an old wobbly guy like myself. Mine (Ariel Rider C class) goes into throttle mode when pedal assist is set to zero. But I find it hard to modulate so I can get a steady assist without surging or cutting out. Had to use it once...

Thinking of maybe getting a Gazelle C380, but I'd like to consider alternatives

Although the last acoustic bike I had (Trek hybrid) used a derailleur that worked very well, I have since gone to an IGH (Shimano Nexus 7), and I would be very reluctant to go back. The IGH has given me no problems whatsoever in well over 2200 miles, it is very quick to shift up or down, and you...

Total e-bike ban after a fatality in Key Biscayne, FLA

My dad had a Chevy Biscayne in the 60s. Later on he said it was a piece of crap. But as far as I can remember, most cars of that era were crap.

Question about brakes on any/ all bicycles with rim or disc brakes

Rim brakes work okay with aluminum rims. Not so good on chrome plated steel rims.

How's the bike infrastructure where you ride?

Bellingham recently closed one (of three) lanes on Holly St. (main drag) to put in a dedicated bike lane, which is separated from traffic by auto parking. Only hazard I can see is a passenger opening up their (right side) door at an awkward time. So we still have to stay alert. Also, street...
