    Our cat just vanished.

I had a Siamese (a stray) that hated dogs. If a visitor with a dog entered my place, we always had to rescue the terrified dog. One time I was working under my VW bus, when some little kids went walking by, accompanied by a small dog. Then I heard a little girl say, "Leave my dog alone, you bad...

Who here has used dog spray?

When I was a kid, I biked to and from our elementary school. At one corner I had to ride past there resided a doberman. Though I would pedal as silently as possible by the corner, too often the dobie would spot me and come roaring out, snapping at my rear tire as I pumped my one-speed with all...

My ETrike, Heart, Dog, Me, And Community

I'm curious whether trikes with the single wheel in front are more or less stable than trikes with the single wheel in the rear. I'd like to hear any opinions or relevant facts.

    Bicycle dog leash???

I love to see a dog with the enthusiasm to run and pull like that. Reminds me of sled dogs, who always have huge grins on their faces when they are pulling. I think the animal protection people who object to sled dogs are way off base.

    Show Us a Tool

If you were to slip a little O ring over that lever, it might provide enough friction to mitigate that problem. Or make it go away. Or fix it. Or whatever.

California DMV getting tough on e-motos?

For several years, I rode a Suzuki 400 cc scooter. It was quick, could do 80 on the freeway, and not at all noisy. I loved the continuously variable transmission. And it got terrific gas mileage. My impression while on the freeway was that drivers made a point to give me a wide berth. I imagined...

Is it safe to freely use the throttle WHILE PEDALING on a mid drive?

Haven't had a roadie accost me this way, but I'd answer, "How are you going to ride when you're almost 86 years old?"

This E-Bike With Built-In ChatGPT Is the Epitome of Overblown AI Hype

AI, as far as I am aware, is the only new technology that is feared and even hated by the very people who developed it. Can't think of any other except for nuclear weapons, maybe. Whenever I talk to some company's rep on the phone, I usually ask whether I'm talking to a robot or a person. I...

Riding an electric bike drops heart and cancer risks, finds German study

Yeah, same here, as I've posted elsewhere in this forum. She has been riding her acoustic (Electra Townie) more, and says she is getting stronger, but I still can easily pass her on hills. I've backed off, not wanting to seem a nag; suggest you consider doing that too.

    Pinion Motor.Gearbox.Unit (MGU)

Not "belly down" but "belly up." I think it comes from the fact that when your goldfish dies, it will float belly up. (Sorry--long time English teacher here).

First Impressions Vado 5 IGH Automatiq

Actually, I like to use the gears to maintain my preferred cadence (about 75 rpm; slow, I admit, but I'm an old guy). I don't set the cadence in any kind of app; I have internalized it, and find that cadence works most efficiently for me, as I shift up or down gears to keep it.

First Impressions Vado 5 IGH Automatiq

I should clarify my preference for manual shifting. An automatic can't anticipate what is ahead on a route, but a person can, I can see that I'm going to need to shift down and can do so, timing my shifting with the increasing steepness. Same thing with stopping. As one must do with a...

First Impressions Vado 5 IGH Automatiq

I have a manual IGH (Shimano Nexus 7) on my Ariel Rider C class, and can think of no reason why I would want an automatic. Of course, I still prefer manual tranny in autos, as well, having spent my first 60 years of driving with stick shifts. (Edit: make that 70 years).

But cross country skiing is an antidote to that gravity thing.

Startling pedestrians can be so much fun.

Important protocol when you stop to engage with dogs: always ask the owner/walker what the dog's preferred pronouns are.

Builder gone to the dark side.

My wife has an Electra My wife has an Electra Townie (but not an ebike). If you stand back from the bike, and eye it from the side, you can see the cranks are quite a bit forward compared to an ordinary bike. The advantage is that you can put your feet on the ground at a stop, but are still...

    Trip Planning

Even though I usually have to pee a lot, when I'm kayaking my body seems to sense that it should retain water for evaporative cooling (which works very well with a Gore Tex dry suit). So I can usually hold it until we get to a beach.

    Trip Planning

My wife uses a woman's peeing aid called "Freshet", I believe. Enables her to write her name in the snow, join the guys marking trees, and works out great on beaches. I'm sure there are other brands. True women's lib! She calls it her "whiz kit."

How's the bike infrastructure where you ride?

I have seen a photo of a Ural (Russian version of a Beamer) pulling a plow. Doesn't sound like a practical method, but I suppose better than hooking Gramma up to the plow.
