2023 - Our Rides in Words, Photos, Maps and Videos

That surface treatment was used alot in VT. where I grew up. We called it Chip and Seal. The windshield installers loved it due to the inspection laws in that state requiring no windshield cracks and if you followed someone too closely you were in the line of fire.....

Raising handlebars on Vintage Electric Cafe e-bike?

They don't make cable extensions as far as I know. In order to make up your new bars you will need as long of a cable housing as necessary to go from the bars to the first cable housing termination point. Leave some slack for bar movement side to side. Use cable housing end caps and a fresh...

Are There Class 4 E-Bikes With Belt Drives?

So many options but it is the unobtanium things that keep me up at night. Like a 4000w internal geared mid motor. I haven't had much luck with IGH's over the years but admittedly I have never had a Kinderhay nor Rohloff type. Last attempt was a Di2 Alfine that lasted about 200 miles on my...

Are There Class 4 E-Bikes With Belt Drives?

We are on the same page Scrambler it seems. For years an industry friend and I have kicked around the idea of a Pedal Assist Light Electric Motorcycle. I have my bike set up as close as I can get it to that and stay reasonably within bounds but it still is a 62lb bicycle. Doesn't bother me after...

Are There Class 4 E-Bikes With Belt Drives?

Thing is there is no legal Class 4 designation other than it has become convenient due to the eBike Class laws and 4 does come after 3 so that fits nicely. However there are long standing laws regarding MoPeds, which Sur Ron's and those Cake deals represent to me. The thing that bothers me about...

    Throttle for the Priority Current

I would go with option #1 and swap out the controller wires at the bar. You can even use some of those melting ones if you haven't got a soldering gun. Put on some shrink tape before connecting. I always forget that part.....

Thanks for the heads up on the battery ejection possibility. I'll see what I can come up with as I tend to bushwhack if the need arises....I don't have a USB port on my bike however. I decreased the switch sensitivity pretty much right away in anticipation of that. We'll see how it goes over...

View shot was taken from the Cape Meares Lighthouse State Park with Cape Lookout in the distance. Trails are to the East a bit.

SHOW us YOUR PIX here .... Odd, WeiRd ,UnUSuAl or EyE CaTchIng things from your rides

We went through there last weekend on Sunday from the other end and got honked at by the front end loader operator who was working in the area by the wall.....luckily there is a trail that leads down over the Cape that we can ride that avoids the north end construction altogether. It does cut us...

Nice day on the trails and view stations here. But pretty darn breezy! Not a problem on an eBike though until it hits you sideways and tries to put you in the ditch

SHOW us YOUR PIX here .... Odd, WeiRd ,UnUSuAl or EyE CaTchIng things from your rides

Checked in on the roadworks by my place today as they aren't working on Sunday. It is a re-route that is replacing a road that has been abandoned. That Gabion retaining wall is huge. No wonder it has taken them so long to get that stretch done. I have to say though that they are supposed to...

Has anyone taken delivery of the Hound?

"Real World Weight: ~95 lbs. incl. charger and battery" Might have been more aptly named Hog? This is a good feature however and I think you'll see more of this in the future, especially with the larger packs like this.

    Archer D1x Gen 2

I have not been happy with the shifting on my LUNA Z1 since day 1. I blame it on the internal cable routing that is pretty much the standard today. The fact that now the cable is completely housed creates friction that makes the gear changes sluggish, especially in the middle cogs of the...

    Second-hand ebike business option.

Due to the NY battery laws it seems like they would have made a better move to New Jersey? Not that I am for exploding batteries but if their inspections are as rigorous as the Electrek article says it would seem like they would be able to weed out any with bad cells? Also as they only need a...

    My Grin Giant

Actually that is my preference for my road bike builds. As much as I like a good torque sensing PAS on my eMTB for the more consistent cadence level I use on the road it bugs me there. With the CA3, as well as other controllers, you can set the throttle to any watt output you desire, effectively...

Phaserunner V6, PAS, CA3 & GMAC (Grin) settings help: power cutouts under high load at low speeds.

Assuming you got a RTR kit from Grin they should have synced your system before delivery. If you have adjusted any of the settings in either the CA3 setup or Phaserunner suite, given you have the proper TTL cable then you should be able to go back to the default settings? Given that it worked at...
