I would NEVER use a trunk mounted rack on my Tesla. A hitch platform rack is the only way to go. 1Upusa.com makes a very nice heavy-duty platform rack what will support the heavier ebikes. I would also suggest going with the Torklift 2" receiver/hitch for heavier bikes.

I have the Torklift hitch, and a 1Up rack on my Model S. Both are top quality. I even made a "taillight bar" for extra visibility which will hopefully help me not get rear-ended.

I have both a Bulls with Brose motor emtb, and a Haibike Bosch CX powered emtb and I prefer the slightly more subtle power delivery yet just as powerful if not more Brose motor. Plus the Brose is almost silent compared to the racket the Bosch motor makes in the higher power settings.

I agree with the other replies, and think an ebike would probably work great for you. You'll more that pay for the bike in what you save for the parking permit for a car! Just make sure you get a good lock and are able to park in a safe place.
