    Stronger headlight ?

Agreed, one drawback. Some flashlight manufacturers actually have bike lights in their product lineup. They look like ordinary flashlights with beam cut off and all that. Cheaper than bike specific headlights. Most of my night riding are on trails so my setup works for me. Many...

    Stronger headlight ?

Having a headlight on your helmet works well too.

    Stronger headlight ?

Headlights that come with most E-bikes are crap. I got rid of the headlight the moment I received delivery of my new e-bike. Non bike specific, but lights that use 18650 or 21700 batteries are so much better, IMO. These flashlights or even headlamps can easily be adapted for bicycle use...

    Could "E-Bikepacking" Become A Thing asks Bikepacking.com

Yeah, that would be more like bikeglamping. :)

I guess I'll have to get new pedals?

You know, after decades of using clipless pedals, on both road and mountain, I tried studded platforms when I got into bikepacking. It was quite a learning curve, I had the hardest time landing my feet on the sweet spot and keeping my feet on the studded pedals. I wasn’t slipping, I was...

    Could "E-Bikepacking" Become A Thing asks Bikepacking.com

I set up my hardtail e-mtb for single or two night bikepacking. Overnight destinations are usually trail camps, off trails or fire roads. For less grueling rides, no long steep climbs, I’ll use my acoustic all terrain bike, my Ritchey.

To My Fellow Cyclists: Quit the E-Bike Hate [Bicycling.com]

Yep, I often hear the word “cheating” thrown around when I mention e-bikes among my peeps. And I often tell them that I learned to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using an abacus, but also cheated, eventually, by switching to a calculator.

Advertising a17” bike. Is that a small?

Back in the day, generally speaking, mountain bike frame sizes were measured by their seat tube length, in inches. I would guess 17” to be in the medium to med/lg. But those measurements can be all over the map, depending on how they were measured…. for instance, bottom bracket to top of...

Upgrading Vado SL Shimano Drivetrain From 10 to 12-speed

I run Shimano 12 speed drivetrains on both my e-bike and my regular mtb. My regular mtb runs 30x10-51, but since the dynamics on my e-bike is different I settled on 34x10-45, which I’m happy with, even loaded with 25 pounds of bikepacking gear. With pedal assist during steep climbs I found...

Chain length dilemma: Who to believe?

Back in the day we used half-links to get chain tensions dialed in. Half-links were (still are?) popular with fixed gear and single speeds with non-horizontal dropouts.

Step over or step through for men?

As I did as a kid, the traditional way to mount a bike, I still do that from time to time, but only if there are no other riders close to me. But often, I ride with groups and we’re very close to one another when taking off from a stop light, for instance. Most of us straddle the top tube...

Step over or step through for men?

Just get a bike with a real top tube and install a dropper post.

    Software change for shorter crank?

I changed mine from the stock 170’s to 155’s. With my 29” inseam, I’m able to spin much more efficiently, and fewer pedal strikes on rocky trails.

    Bicycle Helmets With Lights

I use both, helmet and bar mounted lights, sometimes one or the other. It would be nice if all bike lights came standard with GoPro feet. That and a quick release buckle and mount system on the handlebar and helmet will make mounting your lights on either, a snap. At least some bike...

No braze on your forks, but want to use Salsa Everything cages or the like? Here is another option.

Pricey, but seems like a solid, very good option. I’ve used OMM rear racks in the past, well designed, heavy duty.

Looking for the perfect e-bike (if that exists)… for me!

Actually, we’ll practically be in your back yard on Friday. The group is riding up to the old Nike missile site on Oat Mountain. edit: here’s a photo from that ride… .

Looking for the perfect e-bike (if that exists)… for me!

To get back into the groove I’d suggest you join a local Meetup group like this: Check out E Biking LA County and Beyond on Meetup https://meetu.ps/c/52G5V/T80CF/a I’ve been on Paul’s rides numerous times and he’s based in the Calabasus area so most of his rides tend to be in that area.

Show us pictures of where you ride your ebikes!

I rode out to West Forf Trail Camp for a quick weekend overnighter in my local mountains. Just a short, 10 mile, out and back fire road ride to camp, while my backpacking buddies hiked on an adjacent foot trail. This is in the San Gabriel Mountains in the Los Angeles area. 1,700 ft...

    My first e-bike build

So, here is my new bike, with a few changes and additions I’ve made so far. Significant changes I’ve made so far to the bike are swapping out the stock 42 ring for a 34, and swapping out the stock 170 cranks for 155’s.
