Looking for the Camry of Ebikes: Austin TX

I’m kinda a newbie myself- nonetheless, I have opinions. 1) Used ebikes are not a significant option for 2 main reasons: one, the field is changing very quickly and two, used ebike means used battery. You probably want to know how much life is left in this (very expensive) part of your bike. 2)...

    RadCity vs Haibike Urban Plus?

I’m really enjoying the 2018 Redux IE, will post a more extensive review when I’ve put more miles on it (Seattle’s been cold, I’ve just taken a couple ~30 mile rides in the past week.) I’d rented a Vado 3.0 a couple times and bought the Redux assuming the Brose motor would feel essentially the...

    RadCity vs Haibike Urban Plus?

Too late for me, I bought a Raleigh Redux last week (which I’m very happy with, will post about it soon.) But the Urban I referenced is Bosch Performance Speed with a 500 wh battery, very nice components and the fixed fork- for $2K. I get that previous iterations of this model had a recall and...

    RadCity vs Haibike Urban Plus?

I’m seeing Motostrano is advertising the Urban Xduro- with the Bosch Performance Speed- for $2000. If the Transx equipped Sduro is a steal at $1700, this model is GRAND LARCENY. Never seen the Bosch 28mph under $3K before...

    Raleigh Redux IE - Questions

I’m a little stumped for reasons not to just buy this 2018 Redux- the best I can come up with is the lack of a suspension fork. I do get numbness in my hands on long rides, so I’m wondering if I should hold out for suspension. The 2017 Redux apparently had a tranzx ‘vibration dampening’ stem...

    Raleigh Redux IE - Questions

Looked at a 2018 Redux today, on sale for $2999. Lights, rack, fenders. I took it for a test ride and really liked it- quiet, smooth, powerful- and very natural feeling. Damn, I may buy this bike. They’re sold out of size Large but should have small and medium: apparently this is a national sale...

Hi tech solution to a low tech issue.

My favorite bicycling activity- which I’m hoping to start doing again this summer after ~10 years when I buy an ebike this spring- is to let myself get lost in the rural backwaters east of Seattle and then find my way back to civilization. Im really looking forward to using a handlebar- mounted...

Hi tech solution to a low tech issue.

Great idea! I mean, maybe. Could be terrible. But great idea! I look forward to hearing whether anyone’s tried this.

    Vado 3.0 Question

Yeah, that’s possible. Still, I couldn’t shake the feeling that it was more than just pushing a heavy bike.

    Vado 3.0 Question

I rented a Vado, rode it for 35 miles. I, too, felt like there was drag when the motor was turned off, more than I thought the 50 lb weight should account for. The Brose motor isn’t supposed to produce any resistance, so I wondered about this as well. Maybe some other Vado owners will weigh in?

    MISSION CONTROL APP...

I feel your frustration- Specialized really seems to have dropped the ball here. You certainly have a right to be angry. But let’s not forget that MC is a released product- for Levo bikes and the previous generation Turbo. So SOME of Specialized’s marketing is appropriate- in my recollection...

My Life with a Vado 5.0; I Want Out

This is so worrying. I’ve been planning on buying a Vado since word first leaked out about them a year ago- have been saving my money and planning to buy this spring. But experiences like what I read about here really give me pause.

Is Brose less powerful or more "natural"? And should I buy it?

While I was very pleased with the Brose, remember there are other variables. Specialized claims to have tuned the motor, and that this tuning differs on the different Vado models (apparently the more expensive models feel ‘zippier’. ) And there are other threads on this forum where a number of...

Is Brose less powerful or more "natural"? And should I buy it?

I rode a Specialized Vado 3.0 for 35 miles a couple months ago (Brose). On the flats, in the higher assist modes, it was easy and felt very natural to stay in the low-mid twenties (mph). It was on the steep hills, tho, that I was most impressed- I sailed up those hills at 6-10 mph, butt in the...

    The new turbo Vado 2017

I’m just brainstorming here... Could the lack of shift detection be something that might be fixed with electronic shifting? I don’t really know how that works, but it seems like it would offer the potential of coordinating the functioning of the motor with that of the derailleur. I do know it...

Help me find the right e-bike?

I think you misunderstand. I don’t mean that cars will in some way hesitate to pass you if you’re going faster. I mean that given constant speed, fewer cars WILL pass you when you travel at a higher speed. On a stretch of road where 100 cars pass a given point each hour, 100 cars will pass you...

Help me find the right e-bike?

Ok, here’s my uninformed opinion! I’m in somewhat of a similar position to the OP. However (and this isn’t an argument, just stating my preference here) I have zero interest in building my own ebike. Additionally, I own 6 bikes and none of them imho are really built to be ridden consistently...

    Raleigh Redux IE - Questions

The Raleigh Electric site shows the 2018 redux with fenders, rack and lights- for $3700. Too bad, the interbike video I saw had the rep giving a price of $3K. Looks like the 2017 is on sale for a couple hundreds less than before.

    Repacking a Turbo battery

Hope this isn’t a derail, but on the topic of repacking turbo batteries... (but in this case, Turbo Vado): I talked to a seemingly well-informed LBS salespers9n a couple months back, who told me a number of interesting th8ngs about the Vado, most of which have subsequently turned out to be...

    Hello from Austin, TX!

Hey, I just wanted to share my experience renting an ebike from Bicycle Sport Shop on S Lamar. They had a wide range of ebikes available, including the Vado 3,0 I wanted to try, in my size (small), no less. $42 got me all day, from when they opened at 10 am till closing (7:00). They lent me a...
