    Tannus Armour

I've had about 5-6...all in the city and all sharp debris punctures from nails, staples, glass, etc. Roads are actually cleaner away from the city...I'm also a road cyclists and ride outside of Seattle quite a bit. Nearing 12k miles on the ST1 so probably a similar rate to you. I carry...

    Tannus Armour

Hey all, All the flat tires I've had so far have been on the rear tire. I suspect that is due to the weight of the motor and cargo on the rear rack making it easier for sharp debris to cut through the tire tread and penetrate the casing. A couple of years ago, I tried using Slime tubes and...

Cracked Torque Sensor plate on ST1

Experimenting a bit. I cut up some remnants from zip ties to fill in the full width of the slit just above the dropout. The thickness of a small zip tie is a press fit for the slit. The idea is to fill that gap with some fairly hard material to brace and dampen the vertical load without...

Cracked Torque Sensor plate on ST1

Doh...The torque sensor plate just cracked again. This time JRA. I think it has to do with two things. I use the rear rack to carry things a lot so there is a pretty decent amount of weight bearing down at the frame at the rear dropout. If you look at the TMM4 torque sensor design, you'll...

    Dahon Qix D8 + Swytch

I had written the last post after I had gotten the replacement controller, installed it, and took it for a short ride to make sure it worked. A few days later, I had my son (110 lbs) on it and we were out for about 25 miles when the controller failed in the exact same way the previous one had...

    Dahon Qix D8 + Swytch

Hi all! Over a year later...I finally got the Swytch kit and got it working! So I ordered this thing in late June of 2018 and was told it would be delivered later that year. I actually ordered two of them. Time and time again, the company gave me delivery timelines that they failed to meet...

    ST1 Replacement Bottom Bracket/Crankset alternative

Sorry...I can't help you there. I didn't much care for the FSA parts on my bike so I replaced them. Tai

Stromer ST1 Limited 3-Year Recap + Good Accessories

I'll include some service interval notes on this thread as I'm coming up on three years and 9k miles. I ride my ST1 LE year round in rainy Seattle. It gets used for commuting, towing my kid on a third-wheel bike, towing the Costco run home on an Ikea Sladda trailer. While not entirely a car...

    ST1 Replacement Bottom Bracket/Crankset alternative

Hey all, My ST1 Limited Edition is coming up on 9k miles as I also am nearing my three year anniversary with it. Did about 4k miles in year one, but got and sold a GoCycle G3 in year two and got a Tern GSD last year that have brought my annual mileage on the ST1 down a bit. I have been...

Cracked Torque Sensor plate on ST1

Nope...and I did use a hand tool to tighten it so just be careful how tight you crank it down! Tai

Cracked Torque Sensor plate on ST1

I had a flat tire a couple weeks ago on my ST1 and it happened to be across the street from a auto repair place. I used their 19mm wrench and air to change my flat tire. As I was tightening the nut back on, I heard a crack. Figured it was just those locking washers seating with each other but...

2017 Elite with Big Ben tires: Tuffy or Slime needed?

I used slime in my ST1 LE for awhile. They sealed up a pinprick hole indefinitely, but couldn't handle a small glass induced gash, which made for a big mess. Now using Orange Seal in tubes. So far so good. Needs to have more added every so often, but most reviews say it works very well. Tai

    Over50's Tern GSD Chronicles - Gen 1 and Gen 2 R14

We got an orange one...Seattle is kind of gray in the winter so I wanted something that would stand out. We got the dual battery, Cargo Hold panniers, Sidekick lower deck and two Sidekick cushions, all of which are ready with delivery. We might get the Transporteur front rack when it comes...

    Dahon Qix D8 + Swytch

Hey all! I'm really excited to build up a Dahon Qix D8 with the yet-to-be-released Swytch system. I have the Dahon being delivered next week and the Swytch likely won't be delivered until late this year. I previously had a GoCycle G3 that didn't quite meet my ideal for a folding e-bike. Am...

    Gocycle G3 user review

I've decided to try again with building a folding electric bike. Have a Dahon Qix D8 on the way and also pre-ordered a Swytch 50 mile 250w Dahon kit. Total cost between the two for under $1,300. Expect the Swytch to arrive much later this year. I had previously done the pre-order for the...

    Gocycle G3 user review

You might want to look into the Bike Friday e-Pakit. It uses stackable batteries each under 100wh. That said, TSA and airlines seem to all have different rules about what batteries you can take. TSA says you can take two batteries. Some airlines don't allow batteries at all.

Stromer ST1 Limited 3-Year Recap + Good Accessories

Just passed two years and currently have ~6200 miles on an ST1 LE. It has been solid. I've replaced the chain at 3500 miles when it hit .75 on my chain checker. I'll rotate chain 1 back in at 7000 miles and chain 2 back in at 10500 before completely replacing freewheel, chainring, and chains...

    Maxxis Gypsy 26 x 2.1 e-bike tire?

Thanks Rick...after 6k miles, the Big Bens seem to still be going strong. Will try Maxxis Gypsy next. Tai

Rear rack trunk bags? Messenger bag?

I use two Ortlieb Office Bags with QL2 attachment. You can mount them so they angle back and don't get in the way of your heels (I have size 11 feet). I use one on each side and usually have more than enough room for clothing, laptop, food, etc. Tai
