Specialized Turbo Vado SL: An Incredible E-Bike (User Club)

Thanks - it’s also nice to have another proven source for bike parts.

    Seat Surprise (WTF?)

There has been counterfeit graded hardware from China sold in the US for decades. For anything that matters I check the source.

What kind of e-bikes do thieves prefer?

I was in a nice campground in downtown Crescent City, Ca recently and was told by the management that a ring of professional e-bike thieves is paying local transients (homeless, unhoused, whatever) to steal e-bikes from campgrounds all along the West Coast. I have a hard time imagining that...

    Is Vado Smoking Addictive?

I’m new to this, just recently figured out what a MUP is, but wouldn’t 50 miles be a half-century?

    Fun ride in town today

Visited Auburn Ca today. First half was in the canyon for some hills, views, and a good workout. Second half into town for lunch and riding in some local traffic. A nice balanced enjoyable couple hours in town.

    Is Vado Smoking Addictive?

Yeah I’d say a lot less grease. How much was in it when you split the case? It will heat up and want to vent - don’t know if there is a provision for that but if not it will have to give somewhere

    Tero update to Class 3

I would concede that it is capable, but for me unwieldy, ponderous, and cumbersome come to mind after my experience on trails (unrated) that had a lot of tight turns and obstacles. And I certainly wouldn't want to get it airborne. Even the manual advises against that. It reminded me of trying to...

    Is Vado Smoking Addictive?

Cool bikes but a bit of a language barrier - not nearly enough vowels for me. Speaking of Poland, ever read Alan Furst? Some of his novels take place there and most visit or have some connection. I’m about in the middle of reading them all in order.

    Is Vado Smoking Addictive?

well if it doesnt work theres always the Heineken, and if that doesn’t work, the glock. And yes, clearly NOT a simple washer. I’d find where it goes and put it there.

    Tero update to Class 3

I had mine changed to 28mph but with a 36T chainring it wasn’t really useful - I don’t pedal along at over 100rpm. I installed a Praxis 44T chainring and now I can maintain 28 at a cadence of about 80 and can actually pedal into the low 30’s if desired. Much better. Its now very similar to a...

    A few drivetrain questions:

Great information here. Clearly my chain is too short, which I had surmised. I’ll determine which gear leaves the deraileur in the 1700 position and avoid going lower until I lengthen my chain. I cleaned the cassette and chain with brake cleaner so at least I did that right. I’ll get some...

    A few drivetrain questions:

Not sure I really have these questions organized but they stem from making some minor mods to my Spec Tero, so here they are: 1. what tools are needed to change a cassette? I saw this tool today ( https://www.jensonusa.com/Foundation-Bike-Chain-Whip-Tool-Chain-Whip ) but I’m sure there is more...

Custom DIY - Hand Grip Integrated PAS Switch - It's the "cat's meow"

I find it very convenient and helpful use both at the same time. Its basically an 11 speed manual transmission on the right and a three speed automatic on the left. For a quick burst on a short but steep hill or coming out of a wash for instance, all I have to do is bump up the PAS level then go...

    Building up bike chains

I guess I could break down and watch a you tube video. I generally resist that. I have no intention of buying a spool of chain, but a few feet to play with would be nice. A spare chain, breaker, and some master links should do it.

    Building up bike chains

Thanks for all of the above. I’m starting with just chain ring swaps and might get away with the original chain, but one ring I’m going to try is a 48T and the bike came with a 36T. Both are still 104BCD but the circumference has to be bigger, so I want to be prepared for that. The rings (44 and...

    Building up bike chains

Good Morning! Now that I’m in the tinkering mode, I want to be able to build up custom chains to allow chain ring and possible cassette swaps. I’ve built 100’s (maybe more) of chainsaw chains, but never worked on bike chain. Can someone point me in the right direction for bulk chain and a chain...

Specialized Vado 5.0 IGH Cadence Survey

I’m doing this on my Tero. I never use 1st anyway so I’ll start with a chain ring. If that doesn't do it, then its a new drive train - cassette, derailleur, shifter….but chain ring first. The drive train idea would give my low gearing back - 12sp 11-50 or even 10-52 (more $$). But maybe as my...

    New Bikepacking Tent

We don’t full time, but I’m planning to be able to take a day or two and for little side trips where the coach will not go. The idea started with the addition of the jeep, but now its evolving to bike trips to small, isolated CGs within about 40 miles of our stop. So tent camping is back on my...
