Powerfly 5 FS - Any opinions

Got to do some real mountain biking in the Colorado Springs Stratton Openspace trails, and the Powerfly 7 did great - I could climb the intermediate dirt trails easily, and it's tires are pretty grippy on the packed and slightly loose dirt on the way downhill. I was aired up to 50 psi for the...

    First ebike ride - a Trek XM700+

I loved my test ride with the XM700+ when it came to cruising at 28mph, but the standover height was a deal breaker. As it is, my Trek Powerfly 7 has only a slightly lower standover height, which is unusually high for a mountain bike. I don't understand why the Dual Sport standover height is...

    Trek Super Commuter

I'd imagine that this carbon fork and thicker tire would work as well as the stiff and low-travel mono-shock fork on the 28mph XM700+ that I tested. I was not impressed with the 35mm travel mono-shock at all, as it didn't seem to do anything no matter how I set the preload. Personally, I think...

Powerfly 5 FS - Any opinions

I agree - the number miles I get per bar of battery is going to be most indicative of the range that I can expect on the next similar type of ride. When I did the 31 mile "easy climb" ride and used up the 2nd bar only at the end, that fits with my being able to do similar rides in the future...

Powerfly 5 FS - Any opinions

Range is looking good so far - the trip meter was reading 23/26/37/73 after that 31 mile ride and then a full charge. This week it dropped to 10/12/17/33 after 7.5 mile ride down and back up the hill for lunch, that ended just as the battery gauge dropped to 4 bars. So I could do that ride 5x...

Powerfly 5 FS - Any opinions

Thanks for the photo. How was your trip?! I'm surprised there's no painful bumping of the locks when pedaling. If the Ti 560G locks don't work out we'll consider the Kryptonite NY Locks and mounts. Nothing can beat an angle grinder, but I think the Ti locks will be quite tough and more...

Powerfly 5 FS - Any opinions

It is crazy, although I think the 73 mile estimate is only valid for the type of riding that I did that day, and I'm sure it would drop again after a few rides in my hilly neighborhood again. I planned to ride today at 4pm, but was waiting for a phone call that never came. We really need rain...

Really sore today so next time I'll be even more generous with the pedal assist, bring my oxygen, or both...

Powerfly 5 FS - Any opinions

So we did a 30 mile ride today in ECO mode, on a gravel bike trail - mostly hard packed but some spots very loose and soft. I didn't need any pedal assist for a good part of the ride, but I purposefully turned it on to ECO mode for the entire ride in order to use up more of the battery, and to...

Powerfly 5 FS - Any opinions

So after I charged it up yesterday and the estimate barely went up and now shows 7/9/12/24 estimated range! This has to be wrong, for the reasons below. I looked at the photos I took of the display after my ride, and while the battery had the 5th LED blinking on the charger, the display before...

Powerfly 5 FS - Any opinions

Thanks for the info. My bike shop has a meeting with the Trek representative on Monday, and they'll ask him about the 600WH battery. Some guys did a youtube video of a rented PowerFly 8FS+ and a Specialized Turbo Levo eBike in Salida Colorado, and they did some hard riding, and pausing the...

Powerfly 5 FS - Any opinions

Thanks, I'm looking forward to your next report. We plan to take a long but relatively flat ride along the river bike path in town this Sunday, and I'm looking forward to seeing what the range estimate will show after that easier ride. Then I'll have an idea of my bike's best range under...

Powerfly 5 FS - Any opinions

So far I've only been on hilly streets around Cheyenne Mountain (former home of NORAD). What kind of range estimate is your bike giving you in all 4 modes? After todays ride and then a full charge, for my next ride it's estimating 12/15/20/40 (from Turbo/Sport/Tour/Eco). Every time I ride in...

Powerfly 5 FS - Any opinions

Thanks. I'm trying to avoid a rack if possible - I wear a camelback for my gear, but don't want the added weight of a u-lock inside that, as sometimes I'll have an oxygen C-tank in there if I'm riding above 7500-8000 feet elevation (one working lung, so without eBike I needed the tank for every...

Powerfly 5 FS - Any opinions

I know, but when I hold the locks at the bike shop up against the bikes I'm struggling to find a spot on the frame to mount them where we won't hit the lock when we pedal. The batteries take up the space inside the frame, so they have to mount outside the frame and not be jostled with bumps or...

Powerfly 5 FS - Any opinions

But how do you carry the u locks with you when you ride, so you can lock up during breaks for food and drink or bathroom breaks, such as if you were riding on the bike paths through town like at Steamboat Springs, Glennwood Springs or Breckenridge, etc? Is there a good spot you found to mount...

Powerfly 5 FS - Any opinions

How do you secure the bikes to your car against theft during short stops if using a rear bike rack? And do you use a U-lock with your bikes, and if so where do you mount them so that they stay out of the way when riding? My cable locks are decent and we'll only lock the bikes outside unattended...

Jeff, I picked up my Powerfly 7 today and I couldn't be happier. Thanks!

Powerfly 5 FS - Any opinions

Jeff, I was a little confused when you wrote here on Feb 16 2017 that you had a Powerfly 7, sorry as I saw elsewhere you had the 8FS+ model. Anyway, I brought the Dual Sport+ loaner back to the shop tonight, and after further discussion with the shop owner and salesman I went with the Powerfly...

Powerfly 5 FS - Any opinions

So, would most of that apply to the Powefly 7 that I'm considering (has 500WH batt)? I think in the Powerfly 7 that I'm considering that the cables to the rear for shifter and brakes runs next to the frame, but that's the least important issue. The XM700+ has been ruled out before the...
