Looking for ebike recommendations for 250lb commuter

Interestingly, he says he riding on relatively flat ground, so I don't know why there's a discussion about mid vs hub drive for hills here. I suggested the Sondors, RAD Rover, and Voltbike Yukon because they all meet his needs and have a throttle for when he doesn't want to pedal.

Looking for ebike recommendations for 250lb commuter

What about something like a Sondors eBike? Aren't they pretty budget priced under $1000? Or you could push your budget for a RADpower Rover ($1499) or Voltbike Yukon 750 ($1429)? I just mention these due to the good reviews I've read about them.

My 2017 Brose Motor, SLOW as molasses, SAD, such a good looking bike..

Hah! 20 years ago I snapped a drive belt on my 1996 Sportster Sport in the middle of a particularly vicious wheelie. The Outpost Harley Dealer in Pueblo CO had to come out and rescue me... PS: No, I was not stock - 74ftlbs 72whp at 6500 feet elevation.

    Powerfly 8 FS

Besides, you knew the Trek forum would stick with Trek, so. Did we let you down? LOL

    Powerfly 8 FS

I really like the Bosche drive, and would go for the 4lb lighter Trek with better standover, and then just fit the bike to your body by changing out the handlebar stem with a shorter and steeper riser to get the more upright riding position (I changed mine out). If you run out of battery...

What kind of range do you get on one charge?

I have a Trek Powerfly 7 eMtn bike with 500WH battery. My poor health will not allow me to ride long enough to fully drain the battery. The most I could draw down was 3/5 bars on the battery gauge before I could go no further. Based on my shorter rides of 2-3 bars on the battery (and a less...

    Powerfly 8 FS

PS: In my photo above with 2 bars down on the battery, I was riding on very hilly paved roads and ran the battery down one bar in the first 7 miles, and then the second bar in another 7 miles, using mostly Sport mode with an occasional drop down to Tour or up to Turbo. If the drivetrain...

Just put a deposit down on an XM-700+

Best wishes on a good scan result and that you enjoy the bike! My older brother is 3 years out from diagnosis of stage four lung cancer and has been through the wringer with it.

    Powerfly 8 FS

I had some time to think about it, and as Barney would say, Challenge Accepted!

    Powerfly 8 FS

I did not realize that the Powerfly 8FS+ standover (73-74cm) is 5-6cm lower than with the Powerfly 7 (79cm) for the 17.5" frame. That's a huge difference and I would really have preferred a lower standover, regardless of the extra $1000. My son is interested in a Powerfly 5 someday, but maybe...

    Powerfly 8 FS

ahkim, I'm 5-9 with a 30" inseam and I chose the 17.5" Powerfly 7 - if I went any bigger I'd have trouble standing over the top tube. Most dealers won't drop the price but some will give you a modest store credit for accessories after the purchase (mine did $200). The 8FS+ was the only full...

    Are throttles the devil?

Pmac, well stated. I do think a throttle changes the dynamics of the riding experience - where class 1 is just like riding a bicycle with many of its limitations (requires human power, inability to sustain excessive speeds) but it lessens one's disability by reducing excessive effort in certain...

    Powerfly 8 FS

It's funny how a heavy motorcycle feels safe and planted at highway speeds to me (cruiser or sport), but a Trek eMountain bike feels too light and less planted = pretty scary flying downhill above 30-35mph (but much safer than the Dual Sport+ hybrid trail with it's steeper steering angle).

    Trek 2017 bikes

I've read that those still have glitches and cause the speed to flick from accurate to wrong and back for brief periods, or might show you are moving when you are not, etc.

    Powerfly 8 FS

What a coincidence, I've had my Powerfly 7 up to that same Max speed (not on flat ground). I can do 20mph easily with assist, but once the assist cuts off above that my pedaling on flat ground tops out closer to 26-27mph for brief periods.

    Variable Class Ebike?

Again, an "ignition" key that sets the program for class 1. It won't run without the key, and it you can't change classes without using a different key. Provide a different key to make it behave like a class 3 (or 2), and so on. If you get stopped while you're using the proper key then you're safe.

Motor Watts v. Volts x Amps (Inconsistencies)

If a 36V x 14A battery = 504 watt hours, that means that a 500 watt motor can run for 1 hour before the battery goes dry. Therefore, a 350 watt motor could go for an hour and 25 minutes at full power before the battery runs dry. Similarly, if the E3 ProTour has a 500 watt motor and a 417WH...

    Powerfly 8 FS

Great story! I sometimes wonder if I made the right choice with the Powerfly 7 instead of the 8FS, but I've always felt that a hardtail was more efficient when climbing and that's the big reason I needed an eBike - with my health I can't climb without pedal assist. The Powerfly 7 hardtail is...

    A Surprise XM700+ Demo

I had the same experience when I hopped onto my Kona MTB the other day - dragging an anchor is a very appropriate description. It's making me rethink my reluctance to sell it, other than I usually have to bring a tank of oxygen in my camelback when riding it (not a joke).

    Variable Class Ebike?

You use a removable dongle or key for each mode - if you only bring the key for the mode that's legal for the current use, then they know you didn't change it on the fly. Or keep the other mode keys in the bottom of your hydration pack where you can't get to them while riding when you are...
