    Cycling Clothes

When I had 30 bikes about 15 years ago, I should have had this shirt. I am down to a trike, two swb bents....one with e-assist, and 6 upright bikes.

    Cycling Clothes

I was on my 1975 Schwinn Paramount, with a flawless paint job, when I had a heart attack riding with my buddy. When I was sitting on the ground, cars started stopping asking if I needed help....I said no to a pickup driver as I didn’t want my Paramount riding in a truck bed! When a cowgirl...

    Pennsylvania Considers 3 Class Legislation

The regs include both gas and electric powered mopeds. Upon rereading the regs, each is described in their own sections. The automatic transmission only applies to the gas powered moped. Only electric powered mopeds with a maximum speed of 25 mph are included. And they must have pedals...

    Pennsylvania Considers 3 Class Legislation

Penndot defines a moped as required to have an automatic transmission. I have not seen any e-assist bikes with an automatic transmission. The PA regs seem to not include class 3 bikes in any of their definitions on their web site...so it seems they are unregulated by the state.

Is the jetson bolt a good idea?

Unfortunately the $350 price point has no assurance of lasting for a lot of miles. You might get 300 - 500 miles from it before repair is needed. I have seen Non motorized cheap bikes wear out a hub or break an axle in 300 miles. Or get a bent axle. I am not concerned about the electrical...

Total newb questions but how does it actually ride/pedal

The pas setting will limit the amount of power through the throttle, and pas 5 will allow the maximum speed from the throttle, which is usually 28 mph. I don’t use the throttle while pedaling, as the motor will go up to 28 mph while you pedal. So it is automatic boost from the motor when you...

    Rear quick release?

You would need to carry a knife to be able to cut the old tube in half to get it off.....I don’t have one in my tool kit Now.

    Elephant in the Room

One other piece of gear I forgot to mention....the AirZound air horn. It gets people to stop and look around to see what is coming down the trail.... people need time to process what is happening behind them. Plus the horn is so loud, I can honk a few hundred feet before I reach them, to give...

Total newb questions but how does it actually ride/pedal

You control the pedal cadence. The bike has an 8 speed shifter. Like any bike you want to start out in a low gear when stopped. You can have the assist set at any level, but the boost will only occur when you pedal. If you coast, the boost stops. If you are riding on a trail, you will want...

Is a class 3 ebike adjusted to go only 20 mph class 2?

New bents are expensive, so I got a used one. I got the full suspension Vision for $450, plus $105 for shipping. It is in very good condition.

Is a class 3 ebike adjusted to go only 20 mph class 2?

Buy a class 3....there are no class rating police for ebikes. Just don’t run down any pedestrians!

    Elephant in the Room

I ride a recumbent bike, so it is not as far to fall to the ground! But you still get the hurt when gravity kisses your butt, hands, and arms. I added a e-kit to my bent, as I did not want to change bikes. So I am just riding along the trail this spring under 10 mph, and all of sudden I am...

Is a class 3 ebike adjusted to go only 20 mph class 2?

My P38 can have either a suspension fork, or fixed....I have both forks. Right now I have the suspension fork, but it is not nearly as good as the Ballistic fork on my Vision. The fixed fork will take a wider tire. My Vision has full suspension, and will be my main bike with e-assist. It...

Is a class 3 ebike adjusted to go only 20 mph class 2?

The recumbent seat is so comfortable...at the beginning of the season I can go on my first ride for 20 miles and not have a sore butt. My hands get numb after 15 miles on an upright, no more of that. You can really rest while coasting on a long ride, as you don’t have to hold yourself up with...

    Cleaning your bike chain

My road bike chain doesn't seem to get dirty....it is a 9 speed. I just lube it when it gets dry. Mostly I have taken off old 7 or 8 speed chains to clean....I don’t have any 10 speeds. I saw a 12 speed chain on a Trek ebike....long chain, like 126 links, and worn out after 1,000 miles. Mid...

Is a class 3 ebike adjusted to go only 20 mph class 2?

In 10 years I will be on a trike, and it will have e-assist, for sure. The hills here are small mountains....800 ft up,up, and up. Plus with the rollers, you go back down, then up, repeat, repeat. In the valley, the rail trail has no more than a 2% grade. But to get to the Scranton trail, I...

    Cleaning your bike chain

Yes, the best way to clean chain is to remove it, and have a shop clean it for you. I lube my chain when I can hear it is dry, and then wipe off the excess. If you have a shop lube your chain, be sure to wipe the extra lube off, as it gets your wheel greasy and attracts dirt.

Is a class 3 ebike adjusted to go only 20 mph class 2?

In the summer I will unzip one or both sides, roll up the lycra towards the front fairing and clamp it in place with a plastic clip...so it is like a convertible top you roll back. Also, the front center zipper can be unzipped to allow airflow through and control the temperature. Sometimes I...

    Average age of EBR riders

My age, 67, was not the primary reason I got an ebike kit this winter. My 2 heart attacks left me with heart damage, so I have no chance of hill climbing unless I have e-assist. I started biking when I was 42, and had my first heart attack when I was 55. So I had 13 years of long distance biking.
