    Roads closed due to COVID

Thanks for sharing Cyklefanatic! I live about 150kms outside of the GTA and work has brought me into town for the last 20 or so years. I did live in Toronto for a year (Tip Top Condo's if you know of them) and a couple years in Mississauga. I have read bits and pieces about what Toronto is...

    Winter e-biking advices

From my limited experience last year I can answer your question. My KHS is a rear hub and runs on 4.8" fatties with minimal tread running at 6-8 psi. In snow up to 3-4" the only challenge is, like you experience - getting rolling - but once I'm up and moving (takes about 3-4ft, with a motor of...

    Budget Discussions

Reminds me of my buddies who have boats...they have a simple language 'boat bucks' - Every Boat Buck is a $1,000....'that cost 2 boat bucks, that cost 5 boat bucks, that was a cheap fix, only half a boat buck'... And their wives even speak the language now...heard one at a Christmas party late...

You are a wise man - so many 'live to work' and a few like yourself figure out how to flip the script and 'worked to live' (congrats on enjoying the retired life!). A non cycling friend of mine pressed me for my 'number' of what I have spent on my bikes (known the man for 30 years) and I gave...

2020 : Our Rides in Words, Photos & Videos

This has become my favorite photo in my 3rd attempt at a regular riding lifestyle (entering my second year of making better/healthier choices, hopefully once and for all). Last September I had worked my way up to 100kms rides a few times and then one beautiful Saturday I simply...kept going...

    Fat bikes a fad?

Perhaps a good question for this thread (long term) is how many members here have only a fat tire (or multiple fat tire with nothing else) bike? Follow up question is how many members use fat tire bikes as their daily driver? My friends who also have fat tire bikes like myself in my area are...

Great thread and insights shared. Much appreciated. I have never had any of the suggested other hobbies...closet perhaps was a used Charger Daytona once but it was a daily driver for 9 years and my pickup truck cost a lot more (again daily driver=needed right? lol). I recently did the math on...

do wired bike lights with switch for handlebars exist?

Timpo, have you looked at (compared) the above to what ebikes offers? 1900 lumen front light with a switch https://www.ebikes.ca/shop/electric-bicycle-parts/lights/spl-01-1900-lumen-ebike-light.html# 420 lumen front light with a switch...

    Tesla million mile battery

45wh on a 70km ride. My goodness you are impressive. Your stated ride was only 0.64wh per km! There is another thread here that suggests around 10-15wh per km/mile is what a typical rider uses. Some of us heavier riders (raises hand) need more in the 20-25wh per km and hence we invest in larger...

    Fat bikes a fad?

My first fat boy and only non-e bike left is also a 2015 Specialized Fat Boy. For a second I thought about putting a mid-drive on it but it works so well as is I chose to keep it non-e and love getting out on it year round for a change of pace. I do miss the motor a little at first each time I...

    Winter e-biking advices

In years past I have looked into working remotely from 1-3 months in Florida, a nice short term rental or AirBNB, driving down with one of my summer bikes on the carrier. I may get to do that as planned some...year...when the world sorts itself out with everything that has happened/is happening...

I sure would like to have some suggestions and advise.........

I will post how I make out. Thanks again. I have had previous success with a (legal) shipping service that provides a U.S. address and then they re-ship to my Canadian address with all the proper duties charged and such. This is my plan B if I can't get them in a direct order (online or LBS) first.

    An idea for bike companies

I was simply quoting the OP's original suggestion of a possible $75-100 discount. I too agree a LBS or online source would never offer this discount for both the reasons you have just stated and what I shared as my insight to their experience (chatting with my few favorite LBS owners the last 2...

    Fat bikes a fad?

Advantage? It's a narrow window (as the opinions appear in this thread) but it's the obvious situations - Sand, Snow and open to debate (personal preference) really rough/rocky/rooted single track/back country riding. If I was told I could only keep one ebike from my current collection it would...

    Fat bikes a fad?

100% agree with your suggested test and expected results. This however is EBR and I was simply speaking to the overall experience with similar motors and batteries acting as the great equalizer. While my 4.8" fat tire bike does not go as far as my 2.2" mountain bike with the same size/family...

Loss of Assist as Battery Discharges

I started out the last few years with Bionx 48v motors/batteries and like others here, less go-go juice as the battery depletes. That said the display on my Bionx bikes show me this - Battery level 100% to 40% will give me up to the full 100% assist. Battery level 40% to 20% will limit only to...

I sure would like to have some suggestions and advise.........

Thank you so much for this recommendation Steve. I'm building out a long distance 2WD bike (one of a couple projects I have in motion for this summer) and the one key part I have been struggling with, like OlePhart was - is tire repair/replacement while far from home on wheels (in my case both)...

2020 : Our Rides in Words, Photos & Videos

First day here, excited to meet everyone and loving the threads and photos. Wanted to share a few photos from my first winter of properly riding the white fluffy stuff. These photos are to remind us to enjoy every beautiful sunny day (those of us who are in our summer months of course, lol) and...

    An idea for bike companies

While you think they could set aside the charger from the 'bundled' ebike you're purchasing and knock $75-100 off - they in turn now have a charger that they can only sell to someone coming in (or going online) who needs a replacement charger or wants a second charger. The risk is to the seller...

    Winter e-biking advices

How did you find the 1.9" tires in snow? I ask because I did try for fun my 2.2" tires last winter for a few rides out - only where there was some 'road' to work with and basically packed snow did I find the ride enjoyable and didn't have to worry (as much) about the front tire sliding out...
