    Noisy when not pedalling

Gears 1-7 are noisier when pedalling, but more silent coasting. Gears 8-14 are noisier when coasting, more silent when pedalling. What you describe sounds like mine, so I assume it is “normal”.

Pondering a Riese Muller purchase and could use some guidance

I don’t think any person could dislike riding a Homage. They are superb. My wife has one and swears by it. I have a Superdelite Mountain and my next R&M will almost certainly be a Homage (probably many years away as my SD Mountain is just right for me now at age 55).

I’m a kiwi too Sam - moving back home (Dunedin) towards the end of next year.

    2021–2022 Riese & Müller Homage

On the subject of bags, here is the one Susie has on her Homage - it’s a cracker! Waxed canvas, large enough for a bottle of champers, and foil lined to keep it cool 😎 The bag is made by Tourbon.

    2021–2022 Riese & Müller Homage

Likewise my wife’s Homage has had the 155 mm cranks on her Homage for about 10 months now - not a single pedal strike riding about 80% off road. For what it’s worth I have the same cranks on my Superdelite Mountain riding the same trails significantly more aggressively, and no pedal strikes in...

    2021–2022 Riese & Müller Homage

I actually love the Homage - my wife’s not mine which is the SD Mountain. Depending on rider weight and topography, the Rohloff is either overkill or essential. Good observation on the impact of changing stem angle on the display. My one utopian desire for a future Homage is, now that the 2021...

    R&M, Stromer ST2; Specialized Turbo Como 5.0 2022

I know the Homage well, and it gets my thumbs up as a very capable bike with a plush ride. As long as you are not mountain biking, it is close to the perfect bike, or so my wife tells me 😊. It ticks all the boxes really - dual suspension, belt drive, dual battery with massive range, great...

Front and Rear 4 Piston Brakes

Nice ride! I tend to 'pump' my brakes on long descents to try and allow some cooling to occur. My steepest descents are always at the end of my rides when my brakes are under the most use - so I'm not sure if it is actually fade or force impacting on equipment (pads, tyres) which is the...

Front and Rear 4 Piston Brakes

203mm rotors and dual piston front brakes on the SD Mountain so changing pads, changing tyres (currently fitted with off road oriented Nobby Nics) or loose some weight look like my best options. I agree tyres are important and it may in fact be my issue causing less than expected braking power...

    2021–2022 Riese & Müller Homage

What size disc rotors are on the dual battery 2021 Homage, and how many pistons up front? My wife’s 2020 Homage has 180mm rotors and a single piston brake up front and I was wondering if anything had changed in the brake department.

Riese & Muller 2022 models. Rumors?

Only material downside of the SDM as a mountain bike is the long chainstay, but that makes it a better climber than shortstay mtb’s - uphill flow really is a thing on an eMTB. The rear suspension linkage is also probably a weak point, so I follow R&M’s guidance about not getting too much air...

Front and Rear 4 Piston Brakes

Correct. I can lock everything up with plenty of room left and the lever is firm on full application. I think the increased rotor and trying different pads sounds like solutions I should explore first. Brake fade due to heat is most like the culprit.

@Stefan Mikes I haven’t yet as the bike is only 6mths old.

Front and Rear 4 Piston Brakes

Thanks team. Braking fade could be part of my problem as my rides often include 800m elevation gain and then loss on my ride home, meaning I am spending a lot of time on the brakes. Some really good suggestions above which I will look into.

Front and Rear 4 Piston Brakes

It does thanks. My high school physics tells me this also. I suspect changing pads will be more effective but I thought it wouldn’t hurt to ask as I know there are some old heads on this forum.

4 front and 2 rear from memory - my bike is at my LBS getting serviced.
