Which of these for a commuting newbie?

Test ride a few is good place to start, best done over your commute route. Must for commuters, mudguards, lights, kick stand. Nice to have rack for panniers. Internal gear hub with belt drive for alter low maintenance. That single speed stepthrough might work for you if your commute doesn't...

    Off-road hills for large rider < $2,000

Check max weight(bike+rider+gear)on these bikes. Middrive with derailleur means you have option to lower gearing. If its 10 or 11spd then wider range cassette. Unfortunately not lot options for 9spds.

Thinking of maybe getting a Gazelle C380, but I'd like to consider alternatives

You will need some basic tools to remove rear wheel and fix puncture as its not quick release. May need to disconnect shift cable. Best get shop to show you how. Vaude are only panniers I've used and had good run out of them can't comment on other brands. To lock Vaude to bike need a small...

Thinking of maybe getting a Gazelle C380, but I'd like to consider alternatives

Gazelle is good choice especially low maintenance belt drive. Range shouldn't be issue but would look at purchasing neoprene cover to wrap around battery compartment to help keep it warmer. Ask shop you purchase it from about suitable winter tires and learn how to change them yourself as...

Yamaha charging $2475.00 for a battery

I thought Bosch batteries were expensive. Shimano batteries tend to be 10-15% cheaper for equivalent capacity. People overlook cost and availability of replacement batteries when buying ebikes. Bosch and Shimano factory batteries are easy to come by and occasionally on special, I bought spare...

Choosing FS e-bike for large rider for mixed offroad / paved trail use

The eMTBs are designed to handle max weight when bike is being used for full on MTBing. If you ride more sedately on forestery roads and round town frame and components should handle more weight. Just don't expect factory to support any warranty claims for breakages. This group test has...

Trek Verve +3 lowstep vs. Giant Explore E+ 2STA

For trekking and cruising class2 is fine. Class 3 is definitely big plus for commuting and city riding. Having speed on hand to mix with traffic at intersections is useful.

    Best E-bike drivetrain?

I saw another test that 12spd had better endurance than 11spd. With both shimano 11 and 12spd cassettes the smaller cogs can be replaced individual which is great for ebikes that spend most of their time do >25kmhr. (15mph). I typically get 3000-3500kmh from 11spd HG901 chains in commuter. KMC...

    Vado (SL), Gazelle, Oh My..

With Gazelle see if you can upgrade battery to 625wh. Not sure if frame supports it as its 1-2" longer. If not you can always buy extra 400Wh or 500wh battery later on special if you think you need extra range. Alternatively for long rides add cafe break in middle at topup battery then. Would...

While testing racks isn't always possible you should be about watch videos on most being used. Quicker and easier it is fit rack and then bike more likely you are going to use it. We done 1000s miles and dozens of trips with Thule Easyfold carrying two ebikes. While expensive is very quick to...

Pumping up Presta / Does Anyone Else Have This Problem?

Thanks just what I needed. Sick of using adaptor to inflate Presta valves. Once while inflating on side of road valve unscrewed evertime I unscrewed pump hose. Had no pliers to tighten valve so rode home with hose attached. Didn't like these valves before this incident hate them now but don't...

Choosing FS e-bike for large rider for mixed offroad / paved trail use

If you do need stronger wheel for offroad then original can be setup with road tire for road work where loads are lighter. Need buy new cassette and disk. Cassette isn't waste as it can be rotated with offroad wheels one. Typical offroad puts more wears on lower gears while on road wheel wears...

New Bosch Performance Line CX Gen2 (BDU 280P CX) 75Nm

If you are running 63nm motor with small sprocket then these gen 2 CX 75nm motors may fit. Worth doing more research. Wildtrak should be able to give you a rough sketch of mounting bolt pattern with measurements if can't find anything on web.

Turbo Vado 5.0 IGH - The Nightmare Continues

Creaks aren't necessarily caused by motor but strain on frame and drivetrain from motor forces. Check mounting bolts of motor and any other in frame you can think of.
