    No more flats

Aarg! went out to the garage and my rear tire was completely flat. It's continental gator skin tire with a slime tube. I refilled the tire and it still seems to have a slow leak, something I thought didn't happen with slime. I can't find anything on the outside of the tire, but haven't yet...

2020 : Our Rides in Words, Photos & Videos

Jordan Lake near Farrington, North Carolina. I have friends who live a couple miles away from this spot. I took a minute to ride through their neighborhood and much to my surprise, my friend was sitting on a rocking chair on his front porch. I stayed out on the sidewalk and he stayed on his...

    Used bike lot

This might be off base, but I tend to use Crazy Lenny's clearance prices as a guide to what a used ebike might go for. 2900 miles is maybe not much mileagle for the battery or motor, but it's a fair amount of wear for the other parts of the bike.

Lock-down fallout: more bikes & ebikes & Light EVs!?

In the Triangle area of North Carolina, there are a lot more bikes out right now. I've only seen a couple other e-bikes in the last 10 days. The most recent was an older man (meaning around my age) on a Specialized Vado of some sort. I think the other was a Specialized as well. I probably...

Show us pictures of where you ride your ebikes!

tough act to follow. North Carolina's shelter at home order appears to allow solo hikes and bicycle rides. There's no clear line about how far you can venture from home on a bike ride, but I'm not planning any overnight tours these days; for one, the whole business of finding a place to...

The 'Dirty Little Secret of the E-Bike Industry'.

Giant, Trek, Specialized may be tied to real bike shops, but I'm not sure it's that different. Pretty much everything but the frames come from a couple suppliers and the frames often come from the same factories; they just get painted and badged differently. I imagine the factories will...

The 'Dirty Little Secret of the E-Bike Industry'.

The regular part of the bike industry works that way too, same with laptop computers, etc.

    E-Biking with a Brain Injury

Ron, I know all brain injuries are different, but would consider a trike, good GPS, and a throttle. i'd also find friends to ride with until you get used to the routines.

    buying a used e-bike battery through e-bay

Bosch batteries are manufactured in Poland, at least the ones sold in Europe are. I assume that they're just being assembled there though and the cells come from Asia. European prices for Bosch e-bike batteries are considerably cheaper than here. I'm not sure why they mark up as much as they...

    buying a used e-bike battery through e-bay

I don't regret the choice, but definitely didn't realize how much second batteries would be when I bought the bike. Apple does the same stuff selling RAM, ac adapters, cellphone batteries, etc. I don't like the strategy, but a lot of companies that believe they have a "premium" product do...

    buying a used e-bike battery through e-bay

Yikes. Everyone's concerns make sense to me. I have a Bosch Performance Line system , so as far as I can tell I'm limited to Bosch e-bike batteries. New Power Pack 500's sell for close to 900 dollars. If they were 400 or so, I wouldn't be looking at alternatives. My current 400 battery gets...

    buying a used e-bike battery through e-bay

I know about the Samsung Cell Phone thing, but people cumulatively fly with multiple devices that use lithium ion batteries that together are much bigger than probably a few e-bike batteries. E-bike manufacturers also routinely ship batteries. I assume there are ways to do it that minimize the...

    buying a used e-bike battery through e-bay

I've been watching e-bay for used e-bike batteries. Despite some posts here that make it sound all but impossible or at least prohibitively expensive to ship e-bike batteries, there are some people buying them and selling them via e-bay with what appear to be good customer feedback for the...

    Best options?

I bought my current e-bike knowing that this was my first e-bike, so was happy to find a mid-drive Bosch bike for $1399. I'm still very happy with it. 98% of the time, I'm using it for day rides and the 40-50 mile range is plenty. Bosch batteries are simply really expensive and they only...

    Light ebikes

There's a facebook page called "Carbo Bike Backers" that has a number of messages from Carbo owners. I would join that group first and get a feel for some of the issues that have come up there. I doubt that any bike is free of issues, but it'll give you a feel for the issues some have had...

    Pannier bag recommendations

I've been very happy with the Ortlieb Office Bag. It has a separate space for my laptop, pockets, and lots of extra carrying capacity. The release system (I have the one that mounts a triangle on your rack and the bag mounts to the triangle) attaches and detaches really easily. It works well...

Things I learned (or think I've learned) doing e-bike travel this past summer

Isn't this essentially turning an e=bike into some version of a Chevy Volt? If the generator's small enough and reliable enough, I imagine it'll work, but adding a trailer and a generator can't be the most elegant solution. It does have the advantage of charging your batteries while you ride...

Upgrading to a larger battery. Trade in the new existing battery for a credit or just buy the new one and have two batteries?

I haven't seen this, so I thought I'd suggest it. It strikes me that 2 batteries with 2 chargers might make more sense than 3 batteries with one charger. Unless it's a Grin Satiator or some very high end charger, chargers are both cheaper and lighter than batteries. I happen to have a Bosch...
