    Considering Building My Own E-Bike

What surprises me most is how little confidence the e-bike manufacturers seem to show with their dismal warranty promises of one - two years. You guys are talking about DIY builds with bikes tha thave lasted decades ... I am waiting for a manufacturer to offer a lifetime warranty on the frame...

    Considering Building My Own E-Bike

Ian, If I were mechanically inclined (I could do it with help), I would make the same choices as you ... Endless Sphere has a few tutorials on the Bafang build; search http://endless-sphere.com Another passionate advocate of the Bafang bike is found here at Electric Bike dot com...

    turn-key e-bikes with Bafang motor

Thanks Ravi, I only have dial-up internet at home; the public library is where I use hi-speed for youtube and the like. But, I did look up the specs on the NTS Works Fat Free Electric Bicycle ... http://ntsworks.com/ I didn't learn what type of motor they're using (crank drive, 250-350 watts)...

    turn-key e-bikes with Bafang motor

Would you all help me list commercial-built ebikes that currently employ the Bafang 8Fun motor? I think I will get the best bafang for the buck (lol) from a mid-drive 8fun versus BionX (IMO low powered) and Bosh ($$$). I do not have the skills to owner build. This will be my first e-bike. I...

Focus & Kalkhoff Derby Week August 8 – 11 Cloppenburg, Germany

That's sounds very exiting! I've visted twice (USAF). Germany is a nice, clean Country (and I'm told folks like to beer too)! Come back and tell us all about it. I really do like the stats on the Kalkhof bikes, the closest test-ride for me would be a 3 hour drive to San Fran.

    Alation Mid Drive review?

Thank you JoePah for that info. I have been emailing Joe from Volton, super nice guy ... Told me they were selling out fast on the mid-drive, but they would be building more in September. I told him I had time, could wait --also asked him if he had any plans to build a mid-drive Cargo bike...

    Alation Mid Drive review?

Thank you Mark. Today, I spoke with (the only) 3 local Bike Shops: one shop said they would instal and service BionX only, the other shop was willing to sservice anything that came into his shop but wasn't convinced yet that e-bikes are a stable market at this point in time. Not one of the 3 had...

    Alation Mid Drive review?

Calvin, I think you're right --about needing more voltage and wattage; I'd like to have a lot more than these turn-key products are offering. On the other hand, if I bought a high quality, very light mountain bike with a reasonable amount of gear torque, and did most of the peddling myself, I...

    Alation Mid Drive review?

Brian, I agree with you --and I quoted him directly. Hmmm, I will send another email and ask him to be very clear with me. The numbers are feeling slippery to me, if only because they're changing daily with the new and improved versions ...

    Alation Mid Drive review?

Volton's user manual cites their Bafang as "BDSO1" --but the Bafang mid-drive I'd read about here and elsewhere cite the Bafang "BBSO1" ... does that mean the BDSO1 is "generic"??

    Alation Mid Drive review?

I emailed the company and had a response within a few hours (other manufactures haven't bothered to respond at all, especially where I've asked for user manuals) ... Anyway, this from Joe: "oursystem - though identical in style and general operation - is rated at 350w and 18 amps (versus 250w...

Vandon, I believe your bike will be btter than new by the end of the week. Hopefully, you will pay for your service at a local dealer? How does the warranty work --they don't expect you to do it yourself? Adora

    Alation Mid Drive review?

I would love to read an unbiased review of this product. It seems to have a lot going for it. Anybody here have one of these? Thanks.

Don't worry, I'm sure Joe will make good on his warranty!! I've had about the same kind of luck as you in all ways ... "If it wasn't for bad luck, I wouldn't have no kinda luck at all", Albert King 'Born Under a Bad Sign'
