    eBike for the Big Man?

Not the frame design for 300lbs IMO.

    eBike for the Big Man?

Stromer will haul you for sure. I had an ST1 platinum when I was 260lbs and it was a rocket. Their frames are SO overbuilt that you could probably take it offroad. ;)

Brose compared to Bosch, Yamaha and STEPS

I've read some mentions of problems with Brose's motor this summer. Seem to be well thought of when working but had a bug or two apparently.

New Member, Advice Guidance on first e-bike build, Chinese kit...

Hey Mikey, Good luck! It's not that complicated. Buy a soldering iron if you don't have one and practice a little before you work on the bike connections. A good connection with shrink wrap over it means not having to worry about it failing at some point like all clips seem to do.

    I need a spare battery

not new tech, just a 25% bigger "bucket". You're thinking of it in a way that puts more value there than maybe is? Do you really need that extra if you're gonna have 2 batteries? Just sayin... ;)

If I hadn't been home sick a lithium ion battery would have burned my house down

Thanks! Well said, going to the website and reading comments further it's clear they are NOT LiFePo4's as you said! Rule #1 - Read CAREFULLY.

If I hadn't been home sick a lithium ion battery would have burned my house down

Thank you all for the kind words and thoughts. In reality I wasn't prepared and almost learned the HARD WAY!! I can say with sincerity that moment changed me and I've stopped taking some things for granted! I sold fire insurance many years ago and the speed at which a house goes up is simply...

What is a normal ebike riding experience?

Quite a few bikes have adjustable control settings where you can change when the assist kicks in, how hard, etc On my Falco at least the torque sensor settings can be changed. As Cameron pointed out, if you are running out of gas (how much input you are adding) then the assist will peter out...

What is a normal ebike riding experience?

If it's a speed pedalec (28mph) then it sounds like there's a problem. I've felt that a few times in few situations, maybe most when I was peddling hard and then stop, and then back on again. Seems like some controls contradicting each other and telling it on-off a few times. If it's just a...

    A Battery Standard?

Yes, the output of the MOTOR is less powerful than the other types. There is less copper and less steel(iron?) in a mid drive. Gearing ups the torque.

    A Battery Standard?

My understanding is that mid drive motors are the smallest and least powerful of any of the motor types. They use a significant gear reduction to achieve their torque but are less powerful than hub motors.

    A Battery Standard?

there are battery shops that can put new cells in your bikes battery case.

Need recommendations on folding e bikes that require very little maintenance

I just saw those over the weekend and I'm entranced! I've never needed or cared about a folding bike, but that little thing is so darn cool, I"m thinking about Ebike traveling, taking it with me. Very sweet. What's the price.

3 of my top choices: your help is requested

I had an ST1 Platinum and it was nice, but I had a couple of electronic issues with it. The ride is very stiff and it's a very powerful Ebike, to "me" it was over powered. Not as "bike like" as less powerful options I had (Haibike Bosch midrive and Falco hub motor. If you want to go 30mph...

    Is 36v a Euro mandate?

As noted above, running higher voltage and lower amps keeps a motor cooler. My 500w Falco motor (36v) shuts down via thermal switch at less than 10 miles of mild assist. They suggest going to 48v and less amp through the controller. There are reasons other than going faster.

    Is 36v a Euro mandate?

Interesting. With Easy Motion going to some as well it sounds like it may just have been the "standard" and now that 48v is becoming more common they are getting on board too. I find no need for the extra power, but "more power" drives american marketing and consumer trends like very little...

    Is 36v a Euro mandate?

Why would you look at assumed higher speeds when the bikes in question are clearly all speed regulated?

    Is 36v a Euro mandate?

Is there a law limiting Ebikes to 36v in Europe? While there's no overwhelming reason to prefer 48v it does seem to provide a performance boost in most applications. Certainly did in my cordless E lawn mower going from 36-48v. Given the competitive nature of this biz it just seems surprising...

    Pedego vs. The World

"they say" the easiest way to have a million bucks in the bicycle business is start with 2 million. My minimal understanding is they don't make much selling bikes, the money is in the service. Are you ok with that if it turns out to be the case?
