Can city and state ordinances trump federal law?

From my reading of the state statutes, fortunately, here in Arizona, ebikes are considered bicycles, and therefore can be ridden anywhere a standard bike can, trails, bike lanes etc., the only exception being that you need to carry a form of identification. That being said, and with the previous...

Can city and state ordinances trump federal law?

If you give the Phoenix Police any static, back up officers will show up, tis a rule here. No back talk allowed... also notice the bike looked like a moped or scooter. Thats a problem, despite what the rider stated, in my book that thing is not a bicycle.

Can city and state ordinances trump federal law?

Thanks Brian for the clarification. So guys it appears that our riding ebikes is a privilege (like driving cars) which can be modified or banned by state law. I can imagine there are some "large commercial entities" out there that may lobby against our new found recreational hobby or commuting...

    Are ebikes dangerous?

Thanks Ravi, another interesting reply. Perhaps someday they'll be able to scaleup/ pile those graphene sheets upon each other and connected them all utilizing something like a 3-D printer. Then we'll have a ebike with a 200+ mile range. Anything that can hold that kind of charge would be...

Can city and state ordinances trump federal law?

A new law in NYC that was supposed to be enforceable November 11, permits cops to impound ebikes operated on city streets. From what I have been reading: 15 U.S.C. § 2085 : US Code - Section 2085: Low-speed electric bicycles...http://codes.lp.findlaw.com/uscode/15/47/2085, says that "this...

    Are ebikes dangerous?

Ravi, not only a mix of battery technologies but a mix of energy delivery systems. One I was thinking about was along the lines of supercapacitors: ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supercapacitor ) that pick up energy quickly. A possible implementation would be akin to slot cars ( used to be...

    Are ebikes dangerous?

Thanks for the time you took to get these pics. Obviously the cars are the big losers here, if the least amount of space taken up is the criteria of excellence.

    eZip Trailz Commuter Low Step

Currie's website says the top speed of that model is "up to 15mph". It would depend on how "big" your big hills are. I like 50o watt internally geared rear hub motors, this bike has a 450watt. With hills probably 48v batteries, this bike has 24v. But then I have as of now, no experience with...

Steel (Metal) Vs Carbon Vs Bamboo Frames

Nice looking bike. Reminds me of when the U.S. Navy was considering making an aircraft carrier out of ice.

It all boiled down to the IZIP Metro

Larry, I almost bought that sweet bike. Practical, cargo style bike and easy to get on/off. A Zuma +. Maybe I can have two ebikes? Is that outrageous?

Steel (Metal) Vs Carbon Vs Bamboo Frames

Bamboo is a type of grass. My father had it growing in his back yard. I was always surprised how light and strong the stuff is. Used bamboo swords to fight with my four brothers. Bamboo made a vibrating howling sound when you swung hard enough! I think it would make a fun project. My bamboo...

Are Americans savvy enough to discern the difference between high-tech and low-tech electric bikes?

Because they can get away with it, and.... Yup, ebikes are going to be as cool and as hot as iPhones. If you want your company to be wildly successful, combine the highest quality with the best price mix that is acceptable to the consumer. Bang! Swat! Look at that! I hit the middle of the...

    My Motive Shadow under construction.

Cameron at Motiv emailed me the pics. I requested all black, though I would have preferred asphalt grey. Yeah, for stealth reasons if you read my reply to the Super Turbo 1500 comment you left, you'll see why. Bright pretty colors = attention = bad stuff happens to your bike or you! The same...

Electric Scooters vs. Full Sized Electric Bikes

I don't need "unwanted attention from the authorities" or the bad boys. I would stick out like a sore thumb with that thing. What attracted me are the looks, top speed, acceleration and !tah dah! its very, very low center of gravity. The smaller Super Turbo 1000 got a lot of positive reviews on...
