    Bosch sprocket/lockring upgrade

Honestly, I do not remember. But I would just give it a shot and see if you have too much slack for your derailleur spring or not. Then shorten if needed.

OK to ride with missing spoke?

A well built wheel should last a long time. But whenever you take a hit to the spokes or some lateral stress, it can't hurt to check all spokes. Most stock bikes, especially the cheaper ones, will have machine built, low quality wheels. Check regularly! I rebuilt both wheels on my Haibike too...

OK to ride with missing spoke?

I would get it fixed as soon as possible. A wheel is a dynamic balance of forces and a missing spoke will cause the entire system to become unstable over time. Eventually more and more spokes will come out of whack or may even break.

    Haibike seat tube sizing?

Could be intentional, to prevent you from moving the post too deep and into the bend, which might damage the frame.

    Product Improvement:- Feedback to Bosch.

Thanks for the quick answers! Not sure I agree with the view on the problems. There is an entire industry for placing different motors in cars, where forces and specs are way more complicated than on a bike. I don't believe making an adapter plate that places the axle in the proper location is...

    Product Improvement:- Feedback to Bosch.

Another question I had is about motor replacement. I currently have a performance CX in the older, larger format. If that one fails, are there adapter plates to replace it with the newer, smaller format motor? Would that even be an option with the existing electronics? This sounds like a niche...

    Product Improvement:- Feedback to Bosch.

Thanks! I figured it was something along those lines. Whenever lawyers get involved, things get messy. And the strong consumer laws and high penalties don't help. If only it was a simple as a disclaimer, that as soon as you mess with the original configuration you waive all warranties and...

    Product Improvement:- Feedback to Bosch.

One improvement that I would love to see is an option to install a dual battery setup. The system is capable of supporting it, so why can't I purchase a rack-mounted battery and Y-cable to increase the range on my bike? Even though I am capable of doing the install myself, I would even accept...

    Bosch motor average life span.

Bummer, but I agree with your assessment. It is a good motor, you just happened to get a bad one. The appropriate German term for it is "Montagsmodell". Means it was made on a Monday, after a returning from a wild weekend.

Which of your bike geometry measures corresponds to stack height?

I think what will come closest would be the standover height, a measure of the distance from the ground to the top of the top tube, about halfway between seat tube and head tube. And then look at top tube length to see if it will fit your torso. Those are the standard measurements that should be...

Which of your bike geometry measures corresponds to stack height?

Not sure I understand what you mean. As a bike mechanic, stack height to me indicates how high a headset will build. In other words, how long does the steerer tube of the fork need to be, or can I replace headset A with headset B without having to get a new fork?

    E-Horn?

I did. See two posts above. I chose not to wire it into the bike's battery for better placement options and less work. It is hooked up to a 9v battery and I am still on the same battery, even with regular use to wake up the iZombies on my commute.

Have any of you been in the Army, Navy, Air Forces?

18 months of mandatory service in the German Army. Airborne, stationed in Bruchsal, near Karlsruhe. Also some time training along the Czech border, back when we all agreed that the Russians were the opposing team.

Mystery screws on XDuro Trekking frame

Thank you both for the replies! Definitely too high for a chain hanger. Plus, those were brazed on not screwed in. Ravi confirmed my suspicions. I have thought about installing such a frame lock because I found them very practical when I lived in Europe. But all I have seen for sale here are...

Mystery screws on XDuro Trekking frame

So, I have had my 2016 XDuro Trekking RX for a while now and these screws have bothered me from the beginning. I just could not figure out what they are for and so I decided to poll the collective knowledge of the forum. #1, marked in green, is a single screw on the inside of the drive-side...

Curious how others feel about class 3 speeds

Amen to that. The only reason I chipped my bike is so that I didn't have to deal with that stupid, arbitrary cutoff. I like to go my pace and my speed, which sometimes means way more than 20-25mph. I've hit 50mph downhill and I sometimes, if the wind is right and I feel strong, spin out around...

    Hello from Scotland

Welcome! Nice bike! I rode my (conventional) bike through Scotland for four weeks in the early 90s and have been meaning to go back ever since. So many beautiful miles to cover.

Tell us about your handles and avatars and why you chose them

I remember the "Kater Mikesch" shows from my childhood in Germany. Wasn't there a puppet version too, not just the cartoon? There were a couple of other shows adopted from Czech TV at the time. I remember one cartoon with a little mole, which I always liked. And one cartoon called "Lolek und...

Tell us about your handles and avatars and why you chose them

I used to work with bats. That's also when I was first introduced to email and the internet (late 80s). Logically, when I had to choose a user name, I went with the bat theme. Mick is short for Michael. And some sites required a number so I added the "1" along the way, don't remember when. I'm...

Front gear selection help needed please

I went from the stock 18t to a 20t on my Haibike, also with the CX drive. Also have an 11 as the smallest cog in the back. I spin out around 35-36 mph, which is plenty fast enough for me. The other advantage is that for my regular commuting I am not constantly in the lowest one or two cogs and...
