Appreciate the detailed reply. I’ll look into gearing as well as building myself up slowly to climb these hills. I really have no idea of the grades I’m climbing as some of it is my driveway, some on a private road, and some public. Is there a website that shows grades on a map?

    Starting my ebike purchase journey

Took the bike to the new home and attempted to ride the neighborhood hills. Did a two mile loop around the house that has some pretty steep climbs and drops and ended up quite worn out by the time I came back to my driveway. So much so that I couldn’t make it up the driveway and had to rest and...

Not much in the way of hills - just some dips and rises going under roads and freeways. Also a small climb up to get to the bike path. Nothing I would consider too big though. The wind was the biggest factor. Understand that a headwind of 25 mph can cut your speed by 12.5 mph!

Looked at Strava and it had a shorter duration for the ride as I forgot to pause it on the Ride Control App. It said my average speed was 13.2 mph and top speed was 21.5 mph. Small elevation change as expected. Anyone know which one is more reliable for actual information?

Took my first real ride today - a round trip of 11 miles. I’m sure that the hard core folks here would laugh at that short distance. Winds were at 25 mph as we are experiencing the Santa Ana winds here in SoCal today so it was tough sledding coming home but I put it on power assist 5 and could...

Another easy 10-minute update followed by a boring ride where everything worked perfectly.

I ended up with a Transend E+ Instead of the Vida which they could not fix. The Transend E+ had a 500 Wh battery and I got it for about $550 USD off the retail price.

Fantastic news! Looks like we share some common interests too (tennis). I haven’t been able to ride my bike much either due to weather and a stomach flu but am itching to get it on the road soon. Enjoy and congrats!

What brand and model options would you recommend

My noob two cents here. I would pick a few bikes from each of the brands mentioned above (Specialized, Cannondale, Trek, Giant, etc.) and have both you and your wife ride them. I found ebikes to be quite different from standard bikes and in fact from each other based on motor type and power...

Front and rear lights and water bottle holder but on the handle bar so for small bottles only. Two Kryptonite U-Locks in case I need to leave the bike near a shop or restaurant briefly.

Exciting news on your bike! No displays other than the simple dot LEDs on the controller. I used an iPhone with the RideControl App from Giant. It seemed to work well for me. I attached the phone to the bike using a simple phone mount that my sister gave me (ordered from Amazon) - made by E...

    Starting my ebike purchase journey

Took a short initial ride on the Transend E+ this morning (it rained here yesterday so …). About 3 miles and it felt really good. First time back on an outdoor bike with any amount of riding since my knee surgery and felt good. All pretty flat terrain. Used the RideControl App which worked...

Oops found the Class 3 marking! 🤓 I will just have to be careful in my riding. Not sure how much my local area cares about this regulation. Thanks for pointing that out.

I was aware but the bike doesn’t seem to have any markings that it is Class 3 so I intended to ride under 20 mph on any multi-use or paved bike trails I may happen upon. Hopefully I won’t have much of an issue.

Thanks @GoGranny51. My wife thinks I ended up with the right bike too. It is quite a looker and I’m sure I’ll love it too. I might look into a bike rack to carry it but the bike did fit in our SUV with some effort. I don’t plan on transporting it around much at all.

Okay I think my purchasing journey is now over. I now have in my possession a blue 2021 mid step Momentum Transend E+ as Giant still cannot fix the battery issue on the Vida E+. A shame as I liked that bike slightly more than this one. Pros on the Transend: available now(!), 500Wh battery...

Not yet. I decided to wait until I actually got my hands on a bike to see if I needed one as I plan to ride mostly around our area. Looks like the bike will fit inside our SUV for transport. Which rack did you get?
