    Tune it down!

Why does the Karl's and most of the others Rad, EM3, all recommend 30 on the current amps on the BBSHD? I have a 52 Volt... should my current amps be 18? Since the motor is capable of handling 30 amps, that's where most people want their current limit be, but I feel it is too much draw from the...

    40 mile round trip commute

The throttle only operates up to 20 mph for legal compliance. The setting of my Magnum Metro+'s program can be changed so that the throttle will continue to power above 20 mph (I just did it on mine). However, I don't use the throttle above 20 mph but at least it's there in case I needed it...

    Tune it down!

I have been tinkering with my program for a while but later decided to match it to other street legal settings (but with higher 750 watts peak output). I used 3 other ebikes as my bench mark (magnum Metro+, Izip Dash, Raleigh Tekoa), all of them class 3. This is the setting that I arrived. If...

Yes, it can be used on a mountain bike. Make sure you get a good quality lithium battery that will not put your house at risk into burning down. If you go for the lead acid battery, it can be very heavy to carry 4 (12 volt) batteries around.

You will need something like the 80 NM geared hub motor used by fat bikes but installed to a 20 inch wheel for even better leverage. https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/2018-China-high-quality-electric-fat_60728141987.html?spm=a2700.7724857.normalList.6.214075feQSJoRA

    Philippines Pedicab (Trisikad) Conversion

Four hundred eighty RPM rated speed is a fast wind motor designed for speed (28 mph or 45 kph) and does not have adequate torque (only 35 NM max), even with a smaller diameter 20 inch wheel. You need at least 70 NM of torque. Thirty five NM is too small and will likely use too much amps (easily...

    Philippines Pedicab (Trisikad) Conversion

Right off the bat, it needs 2 additional brakes, you can easily install rim brakes to the front and to the side car. Safety first, especially that it will be heavier with the motor and the batteries. You also need to limit the speed to about as fast as the non motorized version. It's the lack...

class 3 commuter bikes that can actually go 28 mph with some luggage?

That's interesting since your chain ring and sprocket have the correct tooth count for 28 mph speed. Four fifty watts from the motor plus about 200 watts from the rider would be adequate to reach 28 mph. I suspect the cut off speed was intentionally lowered by the rental place.

class 3 commuter bikes that can actually go 28 mph with some luggage?

Class 3 could mean that it will continue to supply power up to 28 mph and then above that speed, there is power cut off. The big question is: is the combined motor power and the rider's pedal power (and also considering the rider's weight and aerodynamic drag), enough to attain and maintain 28...

you have enough room for 4 motorcycle lead acid batteries under the seat, which is perfect for weight distribution. You will need a charger that max out at 54 volts, A 2-3 amp charger is gentle to the batteries and help prolong battery life.
