Can I get advice in plain easy to understand English please

As Tom said we need to know what communication protocol is used. Easiest way to tell is to look at the display connector.

My Rohloff rear cog just, disappeard!

I believe he's limited to 8s - 10s because of the tensioner clearance limitations. The 13t definitely looks anemic visually.

    What's an "SUV" ebike?

You'll probably be fine for the type of riding you do. What I don't like about the JW was there was no warning of slide out in my preliminary trial rides. They felt secure until they didn't and then broke quickly with no chance of recovery. First time it happened I took some blame as I was...

    What's an "SUV" ebike?

As anyone can easily see... Intervals has nothing to do with an SUV ebike nor the cornering ability of a tire used on an SUV ebike.

    What's an "SUV" ebike?

Are you sure about that? Mentioning intervals in response to a cornering comment comes across as so. Correct Correct again. I thank you And you were also correct in that context matters. If you did read you'd have seen that my initial remark was in reply to this statement. I agree, JW...

    intersting way of charging

Perhaps it's best for one to stick to their day job.

    What's an "SUV" ebike?

Yes - not impressed. Exactly Then maybe you should re_read what I was replying to.

    What's an "SUV" ebike?

How's that spirited? If it were... you'd be tasting pavement.

    intersting way of charging

Or you could use a proper charger and stop trying to reinvent a totally unnecessary third wheel.

    Making my own ebike if....

I've had good results even with WD40 if you are patient and give it some time... then the next step is a heat gun. Expansion is your friend and it doesn't need to get hot enough to peel paint.

    What's an "SUV" ebike?

I agree, JW tires are very sketchy on asphalt. You best not be doing any spirited riding.

    Battery starting to fail?

The plot thickens. 2 chargers going bad at the same time.. probably not. Well swap out the display with the Hydra and you can eliminate the display. Leaving the batteries.... Next charge the batteries at the lowest amperage that you have available and see what you get. But it's all starting...

    (2) standard (OEM) batteries or (1) long range battery

Also possibly allowing for less 100% charges and/or full battery drains which can decrease cycle life. A big battery makes it easier to stay in the more/less happy 30% to 80% range, especially if you do a lot of shorter trips. Downside is weight..

    Battery starting to fail?

The display may be complicating things but it shouldn't have caused the +/-25% decreased range you experienced. The LV power cut back and cutoff is within the controller. But we are talking Bafang and then a possible knockoff display so I guess anything is possible. When did you get the...

    Battery starting to fail?

WOOOOAAAHH!! ... are not the the batteries 48v nominal? Max voltage should be 54.6v.... not a tenth more ever. Now it all could very well be that the display has gotten funky with both V and %.. but I would check the battery directly with a multimeter. Also have you checked the charger... It...

    Battery starting to fail?

That sucks. Are you sure you are comparing apples to apples? I know my wh/mi can vary a bit taking into account terrain, weather and then add in my aches and pains of the day. Today was sunny pushing 90°f with a dew point of 70° and I let the battery help with much of my needed wind chill.

    Li-Ion observation

As stated by others the charging and discharging rates of tool batteries is much higher than on ebike batteries so the heating issue is far less prevalent. Sure charging a hot or warm battery isn't going to make things better but the fires are mostly caused by over charging, incorrect chargers...

Replacing zoom brakes with Shimano - any issues?

Tektro\TRP are also a economical but very capable brake with e_cutout. Very easy to work with and most of the 4 piston use the same pads as Shimano. Easily sourced.

Smiles and waves from pedestrians we pass

I go one step further... I stop and ask them if they need anything from the store or if they want to look through the snacks I have with me for anything they may want. Then I ask them where on the path is the end of the road and if they want me to meet them there for a complimentary foot massage...
