Apples to Apples? Bosch vs. Bafang Ultra

Thanks for the info. I have always detected a bit of elitism when it comes to some of the users of certain gear on this site, and your "motor scooter" crack sadly reinforces that, and takes away from the pertinent part of your post, IMO.

Apples to Apples? Bosch vs. Bafang Ultra

While I don't disagree, one could also be stuck in that limbo for a long, long time waiting for the "next big thing."

Apples to Apples? Bosch vs. Bafang Ultra

Holy cow @Ravi Kempaiah what a breakdown - thank you so much. I guess I'm just searching for the right system for me, which entails the need for enough power to push a big fella up 10 miles of fire road but secondarily to also take advantage of the great single track around where I live when I...

    Apples to apples?

You guys are all awesome. Thank you for a ton to think about, or, as e-levity put it perfectly, "more apples!"

    Apples to apples?

You're a saint, Tim. Much appreciated! I'll check the simulator and reach out to my LBS ... have a few Specialized folks but I doubt they rent. We do have a big Trek outfit, and the Rail 7 might be a good analog?

Apples to Apples? Bosch vs. Bafang Ultra

I didn't mean Brose and Yamaha, etc. - I meant the plethora of bikes out there with Bosch or Brose motors, not just the specialized I referenced.

Apples to Apples? Bosch vs. Bafang Ultra

I currently ride a bike powered by the Bafang Ultra - 1000 w of power. It's a monster, and it gets my oldish, biggish self up the mountains where I ride - my typical ride days are a slow climb up 10 miles of fire road to the top of one of the Cascade foothills, taking in the view, and then...

The Skagit County lowlands unroll beneath Anderson Mountain, while the Olympics hover on the horizon 100 miles away across Puget Sound.

@DaveMatthews is that out along towards Reifel island? I'm just across the border from you in Bellingham. @Readytoride saw one of your ride maps earlier and meant comment - my beloved Uncle Bob was the former mayor of Bluemont! So many fond memories of holidays at his house, which is about...

Stunner X with the 24x3 tire Pictures?

Had to crop, so it's sort of dotty - but here's "Bumblebee," my wife's beloved Stunner X with 24x3's on it. And Deafcat is right - it scoots! I chug and huff and puff my way up in my Ultra 1000, and she just sort of zooms up with those tires and that wheelset .... but I sip battery and can go...

One more: the view from the clearcut on top of Lyman Hill is worth the 4000 feet of grunt to get there!

Me and "Big Juggy," my Biktrix Juggernaut Ultra 1000, have been all over the peaks and foothills of the North Cascades this summer; pix below are from Lyman Hill and Bowman Mountain near Bellingham, WA.

    Rear hub vs mid drive

I'm interested in a cross country/packed gravel fire roads bike that will involve some pretty good hilly climbs, for somewhere around $2000. How big a difference are entry level mid drives vs good rear hub drives at this price point, in terms of power for these types of climbs? Comparing...

Powerful hill climber at the $1500 price point?

I assumed it would be better in that regard because of the 750w motor? Probably showing off my lack of knowledge, sadly.

Powerful hill climber at the $1500 price point?

Hello folks and thank you in advance for your help! I am interested in an EMTB that is a powerful hill climber that will let me explore the fire roads in wilderness areas here in Washington state. My wife and I share a Ride1Up 500 series that is comfortable and easy and great for cruising flat...
