    Panasonic XM-1 owner in Tokyo

I know this is a very old post by now, but... 1. I just changed the Grips on my XM-1 because they were melting from ebing in the weather since 2019... ( https://tokyocyclist.blogspot.com/2022/11/gummy-sticky-handlebar-grips.html ) 2. I have the XM-D2 now too, though it has been superceded by the...

Is anyone trying to solve charging on the road?

Wow it's funny this appeared in my inbox today. I just traveled from Tokyo to Shin-Yokohama, which ate 40 percent of my battery. Tomorrow morning I will continue further south to Kamakura, and there is a lot of elevation change so I'm sure it will eat my battery more. I'm taking a nap at a...

Compulsory insurance "likely" on ebikes if 3-class becomes federal law

Yeah.. Japan is similar to Europe, I suppose, normal eBikes with pedal assist and speed limitations are classified as... Normal bikes, and no insurance of any kind is required. Anything not powerful is a moped and requires licence, registration, insurance, etc., And can never be ridden in...

Yamaha (YPJ) cross core \ cross connect speed limit mod sold in Japan

Well they sell essentially the same bike in the US, so I think it has the same motor, but the firmware may be tuned a bit differently for each country.

Yamaha (YPJ) cross core \ cross connect speed limit mod sold in Japan

Hi, At least for the Yamaha YPJ series, the magnet is a small rotating disc in as seen on photo 7 in the link below. For the YPJ series, this disk just has one physical magnet, but the way it is magnetized, it simulates a series of magnets passing...

    Yamaha YPJ-MT Pro

I went ahead and upgraded the pedals: http://tokyocyclist.blogspot.com/2021/12/reflective-pedals.html (They use the same 15mm standard as my XM-1, so I was able to just swap them). As an aide, the XM-D2 uses a totally different standard, I have no idea how to remove those pedals.

    Yamaha YPJ-MT Pro

Hmm seems no answer from oski yet, but now you have made me curious to try my Garmin watch! Mine can connect to the Varia radar, which is already interesting.

Yamaha (YPJ) cross core \ cross connect speed limit mod sold in Japan

Update... There are mods sold for the YPJ line (an Yahoo Japan, etc.), they consist of just a different magnetic disc that goes on the axel. So if the normal disk changes polarity 16 times, the modified one changes polarity only 8 times so that the bike will think it is going half the speed...

Yamaha unveils new full-suspension electric mountain bike

Hmm I have to agree. Taking the motor out and putting it back in is low risk, and in the worst case, the bolts are too loose and you have to tighten them - but digging out broken boots is not risky, so I would try to have that done under warranty if at all possible. I also agree that they...

Yamaha unveils new full-suspension electric mountain bike

Hi, It's a little hard for me to make out your photos, but for sure there are bolts of some kind. Wow.. I think 1000 miles is over 1500km. I don't think mine has made it anywhere near that far.. Granted I usually use my panasonic for road riding and tend to use the Yamaha more for off road...

Yamaha unveils new full-suspension electric mountain bike

I was able to loosen and tighten all of the bolts even with the chain ring there (Aleit just barely). When I took apart the bike and put it back together to install the power stealing wiring harness for my light, I retightened everything to just 6nm because that was as far as my torque wrench...

Yamaha unveils new full-suspension electric mountain bike

It does. 11nm on one side, 22 on the other for the motor.

    Yamaha YPJ-MT Pro

Btw I have two Knog Pwr lights, which aren't bad, except for needing charging. I also got the proper DC to DC converters now to replace the overkill monstrosity I was using temporarily.

    Yamaha YPJ-MT Pro

Some Updates.... 1. I saw online someone tried a tuning kit (Peartune?) which specifically supported PW-X2, but it doesn't work on this bike because the connector is apparently different on the bikes actually made by Yamaha as opposed to other brands that just use Yamaha motors. I think it was...

Leomo Type S Bike Computer Review

Sorry, I was out riding in the mud... Yes I like the route options in n Navitime. I have a dedicated bike Navi unit that has similar options, but the maps are from 2012... If I have to go to the same place often and I get bored of the route, I can easily try another. BTW Navitime does work...

Just received my Device Therapy Bike Mount & Reflector for Apple AirTag and I'm really Impressed.

Hmm... It would hurt to get an airtag too, they are cheap, and the battery lasts around a year. I spoke the two are complementary. As for Yamate, it depends on my mood and how fast I want to go, but usually the road.

Leomo Type S Bike Computer Review

自転車ナビタイム might possibly work in English, but if you don't need navigation then it's not worth paying for. Google maps will give you cycling routes for most places in Japan nowadays anyway, just not as many routing options. The main reason I am not using my edge is because the navigation is...
