Night time riding with an Ebike

Actually, I do have a fair knowledge of The Lyssavirus (causative agent of Rabies). I'm a licensed Medical Technologist with 39 years experience (20 years in Microbiology). The behavior of this coyote was confirmed by Animal control as strongly suggestive of early stage (prodromal) Rabies. The...

Night time riding with an Ebike

I appreciate all the good advice! I plan on taking some night rides this week.

Night time riding with an Ebike

Yeah, a long gun would be pretty impractical unless you were facing some really big critters. Actually, a practical solution (in addition to Pepper Spray), would be a helmet light and an openly carried handgun with a laser. I think that would be the best way to deal with an "overly aggressive...

Night time riding with an Ebike

It's actually not that common (rather surprising). However, when someone is openly carrying, no one seems to notice or care. Oddly enough, I think riding with a shotgun slung over my shoulder would solve both the critter problem and the night time visibility problem as well. Car lights...

Night time riding with an Ebike

Outside of the occasional vicious dog, the only wildlife encounter I've had was with a rabid coyote. Fortunately, it was in the "prodromal" phase and not yet vicious. Rabies has been a bit of a problem in our area. I have considered carrying a shotgun slung over my shoulder for night time...

Night time riding with an Ebike

I plan on getting a helmet light. You can't have too many lights while cycling.

Night time riding with an Ebike

I carry pepper spray. Most of the time that works. I did have one determined dog that took over 1/3 can of spray before it got tired of coughing and sneezing and moved on.

Night time riding with an Ebike

The helmet light is a great idea. It would be great for checking along side the road while riding. Sometimes coyotes can get a bit too curious. What kind of helmet light do you have?

Night time riding with an Ebike

I live in West Texas where summers can be brutal. I either have to cycle very early in the morning or at night. Recently, I took a night ride. Traffic is not a problem since I live on the edge of town. I have to say, I really enjoy cycling at night; very peaceful (except for coyotes). So, I was...

middle-aged folks looking for comfortable e-bikes for a little help on steep hills

I'm wondering if you've ever ridden an Electra Townie? This would be a great cruiser to put an Ebike kit on (in my opinion). The first one I rode, I was hooked. The Townie has 2 inch tires which I really like. A very comfortable bike.

Do you get more exercise riding an electric bike?

Don't forget the number one exercise motivator: FUN!!! Working out at the gym has become pure drudgery. My Ebike has been more fun than any exercise routine I've done.

Do you get more exercise riding an electric bike?

You certainly nailed it. I can no longer ride leaning forward without my hands going numb and my wrists hurting. An Ebike allows a much more comfortable "cruiser style" position. Many people my age (sixties) have had to give up cycling because of carpal tunnel problems. I've actually found...

    Howdy y'all from West Texas!

Not sure who this question is directed towards, but I'll answer it for my area. So far I seem to have the only Ebike in this area. There may be others, but I've not seen them. It certainly has generated some interest from people I've talked to. I really think the price is what holds people...

    Howdy y'all from West Texas!

I think you're right about the low step version being great for shorter people. I would love to get my wife on an Ebike. I have to keep turning off the assist to let her catch up!

    Howdy y'all from West Texas!

The Townie is a bit big with those 700c tires. The ride is very nice, it's suitable for mild trail riding such as the Wetherford to Mineral Wells trail. Are you familiar with that one? My wife and I are considering a trip up to Palo Duro canyon this fall. I did a mini review on the Townie for...

Do you get more exercise riding an electric bike?

Well, let's do a little CPR and see if we can bring this thread back to life. Thanks to Carpal tunnel problems, I had all but given up cycling. My exercise consisted of going to the gym six days a week. Great exercise but very boring. The only way I could cycle was to sit upright "cruiser...

Light, Lift on to rack, townie, reliable. Help please!

I also recommend the Trek Lift+, even though I bought the Townie Commute Go. I took a test ride at our LBS on one. Very impressed. I only went with the Townie because I planned on using an Ebike mostly for street use. With that said, I may see if the LBS will take my old Trek 6000 as a trade...

My Townie Commute Go has an annoying problem.

I have a new bike (under warranty) with an odd "glitch." I just need an idea what I'm dealing with. Whenever I've shifted into 5th gear with the assist on, after a quarter to a half mile the crank acts like it has jumped a chain link. It may happen several times while riding. Now for the odd...

Interested in the new Electra Townie and Loft Go!

Hello to Marleen and anyone else who may be interested in the Townie Commute Go, Last night, my wife and I rode after dark on a road with no street lights. The light on the Townie was bright enough to see the road easily. Today I rode just over 18 miles mostly in Eco mode, but sometimes with...
