    Vado SL's - actual weights

My Vado SL 5.0 weighed 35.5 pounds as delivered. I didn't record what it was after I added the basics including a rack, bottle cages, and sidestand. I'll have to weigh it again someday with all the other things I've added, with and without my rack bag, etc.

    Tubeless tire experiences

OP here. This has turned into quite a thread, but my conclusion is that I'll be sticking with tubes. At my age, I ride less and am less likely to be riding in the types of places where flats are a known hazard, and anyway this is not known as an area that's prone to causing them (I don't even...

    Tubeless tire experiences

For something to do over the winter, I'm thinking of having a new set of wheels made up for my Vado SL 5.0 and then make the decision on whether or not to go tubeless. I know that a number of you have been running tubeless for a while and would like to hear what you think about your experience...

Has anyone put carbon rims on a Vado SL 5.0 EQ Step-Thru?

I've had very good luck just pulling off the freewheel/cassette assembly (no tools required) and lubing it with a proper freewheel grease. So far it's lasted a few hundred miles with no further attention required.

Has anyone put carbon rims on a Vado SL 5.0 EQ Step-Thru?

I'm also considering the Vesper hub. Using a sprag clutch instead of pawls or ratchets makes it totally silent. I'm not sure why I'm so focused on a silent freewheel, but there it is. Of course, they don't come cheap and I'll probably go with a different front hub. Compared to the rear, it seems...

Creo power level on Garmin is rider only

    I have a Vado SL 5.0.

Creo power level on Garmin is rider only

On my Mastermind TCU with the programmable screens, I have one set up to show the Rider Power and Motor Power fields. The Rider Power of course matches what my Garmin Edge shows but I find the readouts interesting as it lets me get a direct indication of how the assistance is delivered while...

    Forum Down

A few days ago the forums were unreachable. Today when I click in the email message that informs me of an update in the thread I'm watching it gives me an error related to connection security. WTF? I can still get to the discussion by going directly to the forum URL -- just not via an email link...

    New Spec App?

I've used the Varia products with my Garmin Edge devices for a number of years. Does the built-in Varia work with the app in a similar way to the Edge, where approaching vehicles appear as dots moving up one edge of the screen? I really like the Varia for the way it can pick up a vehicle when...

    New Spec App?

I can't get it to connect to my SL 5.0. It pops up a message "Unable to execute behavior: Connect to this bike". Thinking to start over, I selected "Remove bike" from the menu but that didn't do anything at all (bike still shown on SA screen). I tried a few other things like restarting the...

Finally: Quiet hub on my Vado SL

I don't know if you noticed, but the wheels in my photo above are on my Cannondale Synapse of around 2010 vintage!

Finally: Quiet hub on my Vado SL

I see that Onyx uses a sprag clutch design rather than pawls and ratchets. No wonder they're totally silent (as well as expensive!). The 2-speed trans in our dragster used a planetary gearset and sprag clutch, and that was good to handle about 800+ hp! :D

Finally: Quiet hub on my Vado SL

Nice! I previously had some wheels built for my old road bike by ProWheelBuilder and have been recently playing with their configurator. My tentative configuration uses Swiss DT 350 hubs with Sapim bladed spokes. The rims would be alloy similar to the OEM wheels; I hadn't been looking at carbon...

Finally: Quiet hub on my Vado SL

What wheels did you get? Onyx Vesper is a new one to me and there are fewer selections in the 148x12 hub size on the SL (not to mention 110x12 front hubs).

Finally: Quiet hub on my Vado SL

There's a guy in my regular riding group who has a Vado SL similar to mine but rides with max assistance most of the time (due to some health issues). So he's always in a pedal-coast-pedal mode, surging as well instead of riding at a constant speed, and I know that it's been remarked on by...

Finally: Quiet hub on my Vado SL

@mfgrep The video is for Swiss DT hubs which is not what you have. Your Specialized hub is like mine and has three spring-loaded pawls on the freehub that engage with an internal gear on the main body of the hub. As I mentioned in my post, with the rear wheel off the bike, you should be able to...

Finally: Quiet hub on my Vado SL

I can't believe that this is all it took to remedy my pet peeve about my SL since the day I bought it: noisy ratcheting (clicking) sound from the freehub. It wasn't just me, but was remarked on by people riding with me, and was definitely louder by far than my other bikes, wife's Trek e-bike...

Anyone have experience with SRAM Eagle Transmission on any Specialized e-bike?

I'm pretty sure that I listened to a podcast where a guy from SRAM explained the system in such a way that it somehow *does* know the position of the cassette and then moves the derailleur at just the right time to catch the ramps. I'll do some digging on this when I get a chance...

New Vado SL 4.0 - harsh ride!

+1 on the Redshift products. My SL 5.0 rides like a dream now (came with the FutureShock front fork so just the ShockStop seat post needed). New wheels and tubeless tires on the horizon.

Are Vado SL Stock Hubs ('Specialized Alloy') Rebadged DT hubs?

Thanks. I figured that that might work. I also saw a YT video where the guy used some dental floss wrapped around the pawls, tightened to get them to drop in, and then pull out the floss. But try the easy way first!
