Shimano XT Levers - two styles M8100 vs M8000

Thanks! Great info. A couple questions: Where can I find the part number for the Shimano/Deore calipers on this bike? It's a 2017 Gepida Alboin 1000 SLX 10, 10 speed trekking bike. This bike has over 14,000 km on it. Is it wise to do preventive maintenance and change brake components, or do...

Shimano XT Levers - two styles M8100 vs M8000

I'm exploring options with new levers right now. I ran my bike into a concrete abutment, slow speed, but it totally scraped up the brake lever and put some nasty gouges into the main body of the brake assembly that the lever bolts onto. Also, with new handle grips, the levers that are on there...

Went to the Gepida Store in Budapest!

Wonderful people, safe and relaxed, and beauty amidst decay and renewal. Loved Philosopher's Hill, loved the stunning buildings seen from the river. The place really left an impression on me. The public transportation is second to none. The opera house there is overwhelmingly beautiful.

I Went to the Gepida Store in Budapest

No tandems in the store. Maybe no market right in Budapest. I loved the area around the store, very pleasant.

Went to the Gepida Store in Budapest!

Way cool. It's on the Buda side of the Danube. Stopped in and got some new handle bar grips. The price was 9290 Hungarian Forint which worked out to $26. Looking forward to trying these out. So cool to get actual Gepida labeling on the lock rings. Loved seeing all of the Gepida bikes including...

    New battery question

I just replaced a BOSCH 400wh PowerPack frame mount with a 500wh. I also have the Intuvia display. Works fine, the Bosch site says they're interchangeable. The new battery does give more range and there seems to be more power, though I think the old 400wh battery was getting weak towards the end.

do you think these batteries are overpriced and if so by how much?

It looks like I have to replace my Bosch 500 w power pack. The current price in Europe is € 619. The battery has lasted 6 years, and 12,800 km, with almost daily riding. I guess that isn't too bad. I'll know tomorrow if for sure the battery is kaput.

    Error 640, Internal battery pack

My Bosch Intuvia display had an error message, "Error 640" which means Internal battery pack error. Restart the system. If the problem persists, contact your Bosch eBike dealer. SPECS: 2017 Gepida Alboin with 12,650 kilometers Motor: BOSCH Performance Line Battery: BOSCH 500w PowerPack...

Replacing second chain and gear cassette

On my 2017 Gepida Alboin 1000 SLX 10 the original chain and gear cassette were replaced at 4472 kilometers The specs say the original equipment was FSA CK-745+CHAINGUARD 18T 170MM The replacement chain and gears were better--never did get square on the make and part numbers. These...

    Uneven front brake pad wear

On my front hydraulic brakes, the inside pad closest to the hub is fairly thick, but on the other side I can't see any pad at all. Coming down a steep hill there was some screeching and the brakes weren't gripping and stopping well. Is this an install problem? Possibly something worn out or...

27.2 seat post, 28.6 clamp way too small

Update--I went to the bike shop and they scrounged up a clamp that works. I never did get the size straight but I think it was a 30mm.. Anyhow, what should have been the simplest of tasks wasn't. There's a number of websites that confidently proclaim that 27.2 post = 28.6 clamp. There is no...

27.2 seat post, 28.6 clamp way too small

The published specs for my 2018 Gepida Alboin all say the seatpost is 27.2 mm, and this requires a 28.6 clamp. I ordered a clamp (replacing the quick-release) and it is too small. The clamp fits perfectly on the smaller seat post, but I'd have to spread it apart to force it onto the downtube...

Knocking sound and vibration from left crank arm area

Thanks. I'll bring it into the shop. The bike has close to 8K kilometers on it, and lots of hills and some rough terrain, and it's supposed to be a city bike. The crankset is an FSA CK-745. Is this something that can freeze up, or more likely simply be present for many miles?

Knocking sound and vibration from left crank arm area

I'm getting a knocking sound, sort of a tock, tock, tock once per revolution on the left side. I can feel the vibration in the pedal under my foot. The pedal moves freely with no sound so it doesn't seem to be that. There's also a notchy feeling, a hitch in the motion with each noise. Could this...

AXA Blue Line 30 Busted at the Base--Update

A shout-out to Axa Bike/Security. I wrote them and asked about a new bottom bracket for this light. They're sent me a new one, gratis. The new Blue Line 30 they sent is like the photo below on the right. The wiring hook-up is completely different on the new light--there's a small plastic...

    Edit/update--Eurofender Mudflap Spoiler 51mm

The responses to my inquiry about a lost mud flap on the front fender were helpful. I had emailed SKS thinking they must have a bin full of these things. They shrugged and said get a new fender set, so I mistakenly thought the clip-on flaps must be hard to find. From the Holland Bike Shop I got...

Plastic gear on Shimano derailleur very worn

Thanks for all of the information. I believe the derailleur is a Shimano SLX 10 RD-M670. There's a pulley set that I think will fit. The bike made it on a 40 kilometer ride yesterday with no problems. I'll get the pulleys replaced next week along with the tires.
