Tomorrow, October 22nd, is National Make A Dog's Day. Originally founded by Subaru to help shelter dogs, but a good excuse to make any dog's day.

Also a good excuse to share dog photos. You know you want to.

One good way to make Roxie's day is to take her to the beach — in this case, in Carpinteria, CA.

Especially one that allows her to romp and explore and sniff around off-leash — as the Del Mar Dog Beach near our home does 9 months of the year. She takes her job of peeing on every single clump of seaweed very seriously.

Then it's time for a good apres-beach nap.

Dogs and bikes — man's best friends. Rain permitting, we'll take her to the beach in Morro Bay, CA tomorrow on our way home.

I keep telling my wife to get involved in the foster dog program in our area. She says "What if I fall in love with the dog, then someone adopts it?"and I'm like either adopt it yourself or try to arrange a visitation at a dog park if the dog is still in the area. A dog would keep the wife active, the cats on their toes and we have a fenced in back yard. She's retired so she has time and I'd be willing to walk it at night and on the weekend.

I love my dogs, currently two rescue Brittany. They are high energy dogs that can develop issues if they aren't exercised and have room to roam. Issues resolve quickly in the right environment.
7 year old we've had for 6 years

Almost 3 year old we've had for almost 2 years. Photo is at Harris Beach State Park in OR on the way home from her foster in Santa Rosa.

Your wife's right. It takes a lot of emotional courage to foster a dog. You know what's gonna happen, and you know it's gonna hurt.

A neighbor just fostered a totally lovable street dog named Bodie from the pound. Instant hit with everyone the dog met.

Really broke his heart to give Bodie up, but fostering gave him a say on who got the dog. He liked the new owners — partly because they agreed to let him have Bodie one weekend a month.

He justified the pain with his plans for a year of work travel abroad. Having the company of a foster dog now and then was way better than no dog at all.

Like I told the wife. We got the time, patience, average quality furniture, fenced in yard and easy access to walking areas and a dog park. My cats would adapt to a dog? I think they'll figure it out. We do drop-offs of donation food to the local shelter twice a month, both cat and dog food, but never interacted with any of the staff. Anyways, bump for Dog's Day!
