Specialized Turbo Vado SL: An Incredible E-Bike (User Club)

Jeremy, thank you. For the technically deficient, and for others who think the Vado SL 1 is lacking power, would setting eco mode to say 1-5% be a good starting point for a meaningful comparison?

I’m not an elite athlete, climbing hills is slow, but no more effort than riding flat, just takes longer. Ok, so around 10 pounds lighter. I know someone with a Creo 2, S Works, specs indicate 28lbs, I shall ask for a ride, unassisted.

Overheard recently. Using the Vado SL in factory eco mode is the same as riding a similar, lightweight, unpowered bicycle. Factory setting eco mode makes up for the weight difference of the battery/motor system. Any comments? For Stefan, no I still haven’t used the motor. Yes, I could have...

    Bicycle dog leash???

It does not end well Following a cyclist yesterday morning, hot day, 40 deg c, a dog at the end lead, lead held in the the cyclists left hand, lead is 8-10ft long. Dog is running on the left hand side of the cyclist. Cyclist is riding on a gravel path, there is grass on either side of the...

I did consider the Sirrus 6 and the Diverge STR, but Specialized reduced the price of the SL and the rest as they say is history! For me, riding the SL is something that I look forward to, it's an enjoyable experience.

Stefan, as usual you are correct, yes summer here can be very hot, summer here can also be quite cold, sometimes summer is hot and wet, and cold and wet. Sometimes a single summer day here may experience a combination of dry, wet, cold and hot ;). Did I forget to mention wind? Tail light. I...

I thought, at the time of purchase, that motor assist would potentially be useful, if not immediately, then most likely in the future. I have found that on flat, or flattish undulating terrain, I can usually easily maintain forward progress at speeds above 25 KPH, the motor cut off, so...

I have been using a Lanolin based lubricant on the chain and other rust susceptible areas, works well👌 I have peddled hard against headwinds in 35 deg c and in pouring rain, in a hurry to get home, problem is, the motor cuts out at a speed that I can comfortably maintain with just my legs...

Time for an update. Still haven’t used the motor. Agile, fun! Brakes, excellent when dry. Pouring rain, everything soaked, brakes are noisy and not nearly as efficient as in dry conditions, however, proportionately, the dry/wet weather setting/calibration are perfect for the conditions👍...

I thought similar, looks bulky/heavy/long, maybe better in the flesh?

Impressive, unassisted downhill? Accidental uncontrolled decent? That hill looks fairly steep.

Riding the SL unassisted, and with a 5kg back pack, water, tools, food, is a much better workout👍 I did try other heavier e-bikes, to me the heavy e-bike ride experience was more like driving a large, cumbersome truck, I prefer the agile feel of the SL👍 Loose, sandy gravel and a 40-50kmh...
