Hi, Your help appreciated…

I'm a UK based 58 year old man looking for advise as to which ebike to buy.

I have intermittent claudication, (cramping of the legs due to furred up blood vessels) and two years ago I had a mild heart attack which was treated with by the insertion of a stent. I stopped smoking 7 years ago and subsequently put on about 50 lbs so I’m now 245 lbs and just shy of 6’ tall. I’m overweight and am now on a calorie controlled diet as well as a new hopefully sustainable exercise regime.

With a AA type admissions out of the way, I’m genuinely looking for some sound guidance on possible ebikes for me to look at. I think the biggest possible hurdle is that I’m UK based so have limited access to what’s perhaps available in the States.

This is my thinking thus far…. My fitness levels are really low/poor; I’m overweight but not huge I’ve always been a large in my prime I still had a 48” chest so whatever ebike I get it needs to comfortably accommodate someone of my size.

I’m not rich, I’m semi retire so have a limited budget so I’m not looking at ebikes in the thousands of $ or £ bracket.

My thoughts are that perhaps I should buy a second-hand ebike off eBay or some such for my first dip a toe into the ebiking world. If I like it and it like me then I can perhaps look at a larger investment hopeful more suited to the size/weight I hope to get down to.

As I see it this strategy leaves me with a couple of potential problems. 1) as tech in this sector is moving fast I would inevitably be buying something that’s not reflective of the best of bread for my circumstances. 2), I think I need two levels of assistance from any ebike I buy a) pedal assist so I can go on meaningful trips and b) throttle control just in case I get in difficulty and need to get home fully assisted by the motor.

I’ve been watching EBR YouTube reviews and thought that this might be the ideal place to speak with people in the know. I would be most grateful for well-meaning guidance.

Thanks for reading.

All the best
