Driveway clearance is one reason I got 1up rack. They are very compact and don’t extend much from the hitch. I had had the Kuat NV 2.0 and it extends 14” almost double that of 1up.
Went biking at a country park recently. When I returned I discovered that my kuat rack was damaged, with the tire holder arm bent and tire tray crooked. It is a two bike rack and sits pretty low to the ground in loading position, so I can imagine how someone backing up their car or truck did...
I received my 1up rack today, 4 weeks after ordering it. It is a beautiful rack, so well engineered. And the hitch bar it doesn't extend 14" beyond my hitch like my Kuat NV 2.0 rack, which causes it to scrape my driveway. I did notice that changing the rack position is not as easy to change...
Thanks @Court ! I tried a loading maneuver similar to what you did, and it works well enough, so no ramp needed. Really appreciate all your great reviews!!
I got that information from their website. It actually doesn't look right. It says 1-bike rack supports 60/lb, plus 40/lb with add-on rack. But the 2-bike 1.25/2" rack supports only 40/lb per bike. Shouldn't the one piece rack for 2-bikes be stronger than the one-plus-one rack...
Even if you wanted to buy it, you can't, out of stock!! Agreed, prices are getting out of my range too. I was hoping to get a rack for around $400 but eventually went up to $600+ to get 1Up.
I emailed 1up and they explained that with express shipping, they’ll also expedite order processing. I guess for that extra $100, they give your order more priority when processing. I went ahead and submitted my order without express shipping / expedited processing, but they seem to have no...
Thanks, @FezUSA. With the Kuat rack, I was able to load the ebike one wheel at a time onto the inner rack, so my original concern about ebike being too heavy to lift was resolved. MoTow does look like a good solution for those really heavy ebikes. Mine is "only" 48 lbs without the battery.
Very interesting!! In this video, the woman keeps comparing the new racks to the old ones, which she never names but is implied as "1Up". Several improvement made and less tools needed for rack adjustments and expansion. With these improvements, QuikRStuff looks to have improved upon 1Up's...
From 1Up website:
It sounds like with express shipping, they will process and ship your order in 2-5 days, while order processing for free shipping takes 4-5 weeks. I don't know why shipping speed affects order processing speed, doesn't make sense. I'll call to double check.
So I ended up buying Kuat NV Base 2.0 after reading many great reviews. It is a really nice looking rack and very well made. BUT!!!
1) The hitch is too long for my car ('19 Rav4). It extends about 14-15" beyond the hitch and makes it difficult to in/out of my driveway and ride over speed...
It is puzzling why this couldn't be addressed with a new firmware. Even more curious is Aventon's claim that TOD was disabled for "safety reasons", but yet the jerky PAS not a safety concern. I've read quite a few posts of folks falling/crashing due to the jerky starts with PAS.
So pricing out 1Up rack for 2 bikes and one ramp, it'll be $717. Add another $100 for express shipping, because free shipping for ship in 4-5 weeks!!??!!?
