Yes part shortages are a huge problem right now. Before I purchased my Aventure, I was looking at another bike company that replaced the torque sensor with a cadence sensor due to shortages (and kept the bike at the same price). Swapping out Shimano seems like less of an issue in comparison, but...

I totally understand your frustration. I'm lucky I ordered before they became overwhelmed. The Aventure is an amazing bike especially for the price, but you should definitely be able to confirm which components you will get. One other option is to try messaging Aventon on Facebook or Twitter...

Interesting to hear about the Sunrace. There's apparently a huge shortage of Shimano derailleurs because of the pandemic, and my guess is that this was the only way they could get the component and get the bike out to you. The Aventon website doesn't explicitly state Shimano derailleur/shifter...

Prior to the Aventure release, I would get responses via email in a few hours. Since the Aventure was released, it has taken several days to hear back. They are definitely swamped right now, hopefully it will get better once demand dies down a bit or they hire more people.

In addition to the speed cutoff at each PAS level, the assist increases at higher PAS levels. At PAS 2, I don't get to 15 mph on a steep hill (even though the assist never cuts off), but I do exceed 15 mph at higher PAS levels. So it looks like a dual system where there is both a speed limit at...

On my Aventon Aventure, PAS 1 seems to assist up to 10 mph, PAS 2 assists up to 15 mph, PAS 3 up to 20 mph, etc.

What makes the Aventure your daily rider over the Rad Rover? Curious how you think the two compare since you're familiar with both.

I will note I've only used my Aventure on pavement when going uphill so far. There are several YouTube videos from true mountain bikers who seemed to have no problem with hills at PAS 2 and above.

I've only had my Aventure for a couple days, but it has handled hills with ease. Hills that I used to walk up with my old bike were easy in PAS 1-3, and the Aventure flies by any hill I've tried on PAS 4-5 with virtually no effort. It's almost like cheating at the higher power levels.

I read your incredibly helpful Level review and actually placed an order for the Level, but switched it to the Aventure when it was announced this week. Thank you for the review and updates. BTW, I live in Arlington if you ever wanted to check out the Aventure in person.
