Thanks for all the suggestions. My first fall was the result of a truck pulling out of a construction site onto my sidewalk path. Had to fall to avoid collision. Broke wrist. Second fall was flukey curb bump. My fault. Broke elbow. Very surprised.

Thanks to all for your thoughts. I am not wedded to the idea of having the motor on the front wheel but it seems to be a better weight distribution and the rear wheel has the derailleur so it seems to me that it's a more complicated approach. I do not need to take the wheel (motor) off every day...
