I have used an electric trike for 8 years now putting on more than 43,000 miles. Most of the miles were daily riding in town but I also traveled much of western oregon, cascades to coastal campgrounds. I've been over the cascades into the high desert many times and up and down on the coast. I towed a trailer with a generator to recharge batteries (2.4 kw).
The trike was setup with lipo 48v (50 to 53 working voltage) 25 ah driving a BBS02 mid drive and a front wheel 500 watt mac motor. The BBS 02 was used mostly in high torque situations pulling low gear like a beast. At times I would see 2 kw in extreme climbs. Using both motors, and my wonderful legs, I was able to pull a trailer full of camping gear and generator. This whole thing with me (230 lbs) on it had an all up weight of 650 lbs. I have pictures of this whole thing on an oregon road scale showing the weight.
I just retired the trike after 43,362 miles. Sad but necessary.d
I used an original CA for the whole eight years so I know the wattage used, a/h /mile and just how to get the most from these motors. It made understanding power output a simple matter.
