    correct connections when charging

PS. AI agrees. Yes, the recommended practice for charging an ebike battery is to first plug the charger into the battery (or bike), and then plug the charger into the wall socket. This sequence prevents a potential power surge, sparks, or damage to the connector pins, as it allows the...

    correct connections when charging

The instructions with my Rad Rover were to first plug into the battery and then plug in the charger and then unplug the charger first after charging. Never seen a spark.

Spooked by recent recalls - Are these battery charging cabinets worth the investment?

I have two batteries for my Rad Rover that are 5 and 6 years old. They've never even gotten warm when charging. The charger gets a little warm to the touch but never the batteries.

I didn't mean you. I'm curious in general. If most ebike fires occur during charging is it because unauthorized chargers meant to quickly charge a battery are the main reason.

Spooked by recent recalls - Are these battery charging cabinets worth the investment?

Your last sentence, if correct, tells me unauthorized chargers are involved. Trying to fast charge?

Spooked by recent recalls - Are these battery charging cabinets worth the investment?

The way I've handled it is to never abuse my bike or get it wet. To store my batteries at around 70% during the off season and always balance them at the beginning of the next season. To only use the factory charger that came with the bike. No problems with my Rad Rover or the batteries in the...

    Rad has new owner

I wonder if they will do anything for Rad owners that have the so called bad battery. I have two of them.

Rad Power Bikes warehouse catches fire

I noticed they don't know the cause though.

From Class 2 to Class 1. How "hard" is it to switch?

Seems to me you answered your own question when saying you use it when your legs or knees get tired. I don't but always use it for a couple of seconds to get underway from a full stop especially if I'm in a higher gear when I make that stop. That alone is enough for me to want to keep the throttle.

    RAD Power Bikes Going Bust

Get back to normal? Doubt it for at least another 3 years unless we get lucky.

End of season battery partial drain

For fun I asked AI. For winter storage, the best charge for an e-bike battery is around 40-60% (or 2-3 bars), stored indoors at room temperature (50-77°F / 10-25°C), never fully charged or drained, and checked every couple of months to top up if it drops too low, as this minimizes stress and...

End of season battery partial drain

But what is long term storage? Sitting on a cargo ship and then in a warehouse for months or years until sold. How about just sitting in my house from now until April?

End of season battery partial drain

Thanks, I don't plan to just let it run but do it in bursts and not at full.

End of season battery partial drain

It's pretty sloppy right now. These rural roads in my small town on the coast of Maine are narrow with shoulder drops as deep as 6 inches in places. I might hold off and hope for a dry day after predicted rain washes away the few inches of snow we have now. Right now I'd get sprayed with sand...

End of season battery partial drain

Thanks. The bike is a 2020 Rad Rover ST. I wouldn't think it would be any more wear on the motor than riding it although it would take longer. I could do it in shifts.
