Just coat your chain in marine axle grease; it will last longer than the bike does since you don't pedal.

I have done 40-mile rides in the rain. But usually it's two 8-mile rides a day on my commute.

I tried it it did not hold up that well to the rain. And it is kinda messy if I remember right, but I may not have let it sit long...
