Known Issues & Problems with Zen Products + Help, Solutions & Fixes

Well...shifter -- cable broke horribly on the end with the tiny nubbin, the other side developed a kink as a result. Manual interface got grime underneath(my first time pulling it off fully, no idea when this may have happened, truly) and also the addition of a brand new snap ring stuck inside...

Known Issues & Problems with Zen Products + Help, Solutions & Fixes

Well...thanks to the CVT drivetrain failing spectacularly(again, the first was not as spectacular, just shifter/cable replacement)...today I replaced Shifter(+cables), manual interface, and belt...under 3000km. This is getting to be a heckin' expensive bike to maintain. (2024 Photon Pro). Maybe...

Zen Photon Ultra - limited version (Bafang Ultra, Rohloff Speed hub, Gates belt drive)

That's good to hear...My experience with this enviolo CVT has been nothing short of a bummer. I spend WAY too much time trying to keep tension correct/the belt from skipping, and the shifter cables have snapped 2x. Once in the first 25km, and again now. I sort of wish I had taken the hint at...

Zen Photon Ultra - limited version (Bafang Ultra, Rohloff Speed hub, Gates belt drive)

Yeah, there is that, too. Riding a >30lb pedal-only bike in the meantime/right now is like I can fly! There's certainly a few reasons I'm pondering the sale.

Zen Photon Ultra - limited version (Bafang Ultra, Rohloff Speed hub, Gates belt drive)

May I ask why you're selling? Am thinking about doing the same with the Pro, TBH(Once I repair mine). Have wondered if the Rohloff was any better than the CVT: Mine's broken badly a bunch of times now. This last time quite badly on gravel(such that I'm replacing the belt and manual hub...

    US Bill on Battery Safety...

Same thing here(Though I haven't seen that Canada is moving there as quickly). Another manufacturer kept saying their cells are UL certified, which doesn't sound like the same thing to me, so I bought in to Zen(heck the certification is posted here in the forum IIRC--easy to check that box).

    Zen Photon Pro- Preorder | 1040Wh UL Certified battery | 500W nominal/900W peak power Torque-sensing motor w/ Throttle | USD 2999 | CAD 3999

...Thanks for posting this. I finally replaced mine today. The seatpost has been slipping a bit every time I hit a bump lately. The plastic on the QR for the original seems to have failed.

Best bet is to try and record the sounds and reach out to the service team with the recording, I think.

Winter riding on the Zen Photon.

Good advice! Thanks for the link action too. I tend only to glance at it anyway for speed and PAS level. My use case was the better cockpit config(and pogies, though the extreme cold has since passed).

Winter riding on the Zen Photon.

Sure did yeah, it came up in another thread...I think the one for the latest version of the Photon. Reach out to them about it. I haven't put it to the test in full sunlight yet, and I doubt we'll have much today.

Winter riding on the Zen Photon.

Finally got the upgraded display and had a chance to re-arrange the cockpit to my liking and get it installed. I don't use throttle...ever really(and can still reach in a pinch if I need to), but it's handy for maintenance I suppose. I found the lack of good placement for a bell was really...

Need your help: Left side motor cover question

I sort of wonder what's going on there, TBH. There was a lot of blame on logistics and other such last year...but like, having to follow up in the extreme/inaction on their end has been the norm since I got the bike. I'm growing rather concerned.

Winter riding on the Zen Photon.

I went wider because as far as ebiking in winter in Saskatoon, fat studded has worked well for me in our most common conditions(though those were 3-4.8" fat tire ebikes at lower pressures). SO I figured I'd roll the dice on 2.6".. I still think this was the right move, though right now at...

Winter riding on the Zen Photon.

So. I have found out. I agree, getting that last 20% of the bead on and seated was incredibly hard -- but did you also try doing it with tannus armor?(I did) what a brutal experience(talc helps in the tire a lot, didn't do it in the first tire and I have regrets..because I may be redoing it...

Winter riding on the Zen Photon.

In this city/Saskatoon, we've had huge temp swings, and we're pretty awful for snow clearing on roadways. Everything is sheer ice and snirt right now with a new layer of really cold snow. A week of extreme cold warnings. Can confirm, this is probably best handled by low pressure fat tires. But...
