New ebike laws in California taking effect January 1, 2026

Certification of new batteries, 750-watt absolute power limit (even for peak moments), blinking rear red light, helmets for certain ages, and other requirements.

How many miles a year do you ride?

In ten years of riding ebikes I average between 3,000 and 4,000 miles per year. I ride four times per week, sometimes more, some times less. I just enjoy riding without tracking my mileage, my speed, my time, or my altitude.

Forum software is adding product links to product names mentioned in posts. Thoughts?

I propose we insert a random character such as an exclamation point or a question mark in the middle of any brand name to gum up the AI works.

Introducing Myself: Mostly a Solo Rider

Welcome, Ava! I prefer to ride alone. I take cameras along and stop often to take pictures. Other riders may sometimes find that annoying. Also, I take many pictures of birds. People talk and scare birds away. Birds seem to do interesting things when I am quiet and patient. And, as you say...

    I use one of these.

    Camera damage in handlebar-mounted phones?

I have used a number of iPhones mounted on my ebike handlebars over the past ten years without issue. I use the Peak Design mount (which requires the Peak Design case). Two of my three ebikes have front suspension, so perhaps that helps. My current iPhone is the 16 Pro, and it's been working...

Why does EBR hate recumbent bikes?

I've been a member of this website for over ten years and I have not seen a bias against recumbents. When Court used to own this site he reviewed at least four electric recumbents, three of which were tadpole style trikes (two wheels in front): click here for link.

    Goodbye to biking

Medicare paid for my Biotronik pacemaker, no questions asked. I have Medicare Advantage with Kaiser, so the whole procedure may be different.

    anyone get leg cramps?

I have similar symptoms. One leg falls asleep and becomes painful. Getting up and walking around relieves the pain. I end sleeping less. But it's not necessarily on the days I have ridden my bike. It's random, about 3 or 4 nights a week. A doctor thought it was sciatica and prescribed physical...

    e Trike pls Help

Ernie, congratulations on making it to 97! It's great that you still want to ride a trike. The first thing you should do is test ride a trike. Etrikes, in particular, do not handle the same as ebikes, of course. They also do not handle as you might expect. Many etrikes only power one of the two...

    Ebike or exoskeleton? Or both?

It appears that exoskeletons are ready for prime time. An exoskeleton is a powered devide that helps you move, including walking, running, cycling, and walking up and down stairs. Here is an article in Cycling Weekly. Also, check out the link to Julia Clarke's story in Advnture magazine on using...

What camera do you use if you are into photography, when cycling

I have a drone, a DJI Phantom 4. I have not used it in years. I used it for real estate photography and video, but that business has gone down the tubes. Any real estate agent can take good enough pictures with their smartphone. Plus, as restrictions grew, the entire city of San Diego became off...

    My "New" Ebike

Very cool! It even has front suspension, rack, and panniers! A front hub motor, is that right?

    people for bikes city ratings

Yes, I live in Hillcrest and bike from my condo. Regarding Sunset Cliffs and Point Loma, you can ride one of the trails in Sunset Cliffs Park up to Lomaland Drive (you cannot do this in a car). You are then inside the campus of Point Loma Nazarene College. From there you can ride to the tip of...

    people for bikes city ratings

Yes, @Jeremy McCreary, North County has it much better than San Diego proper, and it's even worse as you go south to Chula Vista, Imperial Beach, and San Ysidro. (And forget about going east to La Mesa, El Cajon, Santee, or Spring Valley.) But even as bike infrastructure in San Diego is middling...
