The 500W motor is much better. Much more responsive and has more torque. If I ride conservatively then the battery seems to give me about the same range as the old motor did but if I push it then the range reduces a lot. But this is to be expected!

I have a theory that this is possibly caused by the fact that the chain wheel is small and rotates at 2.5 times the pedaling cadence.
